Well, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is out and yes, I finally saw those post-credit scenes everyone was talking about. So, let’s evaluate these post-credit scenes and what they may be setting up in the MCU.
Spoilers ahead!
Post-Credit Scene 1
At the end of Shang-Chi, the title character and his best friend Katy are having dinner with some friends and telling them how they saved the world from a giant soul-sucking dragon-thingy when Wong shows up and crashes the party.
The post-credits scene continues that scene with Wong contacting Captain Marvel and Bruce Banner about the Ten Rings. Apparently, when Shang-Chi used them to destroy the giant dragon-thingy he activated a beacon within the weapons. What the beacon is calling to, I have no idea, but it obviously isn’t good.
Was the post-credits scene as incredible as I thought it was going to be? Yes…and no. It was fantastic to see Captain Marvel and Bruce Banner which officially solidified Shang-Chi as an important character in the MCU and his place as the newest Avenger. However, people were saying we were going to see an unfamiliar character in the post-credits scene and there weren’t any surprise characters so that was a bit disappointing.
But it was exciting and anytime we get a chance to see Wong being goofy is fun.
Post-Credit Scene 2
Okay…the second post-credits scene was a lot more ambiguous and yet just as important. Shang-Chi’s sister, Xialing, escaped her father’s domineering presence and went to Macao where she built an underground fight club that hosted some of the MCU’s most important and intriguing characters…like Wong and Abomination.
So, when she was tasked with dismantling the Ten Rings Organization, it makes perfect sense that she decided to take over the Ten Rings for herself. Now, is she a villain now? No. I don’t think so.
Xialing is undoubtedly more like her father than Shang-Chi which may cause her to clash with her brother in the future but I do not believe Marvel Studios is about to make her create a terrorist organization on the likes of HYDRA. At least…I hope not.
All in all, these post-credit scenes were fun and informative. It’s very clear that Shang-Chi’s story is just beginning and honestly, I can’t wait to see him again.
And yeah, Marvel Studios. When are we getting his sequel?
