So, to give some early context to this review, I am a young Black woman who loves Tom Cruise movies and yet never had an interest in watching the original Top Gun film. I knew it was one of his most iconic movies, I knew it had a major following, I knew that it became one of the iconic films of the 80s’, and yet there was always something that made me not want to watch it. Even as I prepared to watch its highly-anticipated sequel, even as I noticed that it was available to watch on Netflix, I could never get the urge to watch the film. That being said…the sequel is a phenomenal movie.

‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Starts As Intensely As I Could’ve Hoped For
It’s nearly half-past 2am as I write this, yet I am absolutely wide awake because I just watched the first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi, and my mind is blown. The trailers did not give anything away. In fact, what you see from the trailers is practically everything from these two episodes.
From the literal first second the show lets you know that this was made for the fans. It’s been seventeen years since we thought we’d never see Star Wars again, leastwise Obi-Wan Kenobi’s story continued and yet…here we are. From there, as Samuel L. Jackson says so eloquently in Jurassic Park: “Hold onto your butts.”
Both episodes together combine for a total of an hour and a half of Star Wars greatness. And through this magical runtime, there’s a lot to experience as a Star Wars fan. One can feel emotion at simply Obi-Wan’s pained expression or you can feel a sense of wonder watching Kenobi being the sand hermit we always knew he was. There’s also a genuine sense of fear when the villains come around because they are exactly that: villains.

This Week of Marvel Studios News Is All About the Women
As an MCU fan, this week has been an absolute feast.
First off, a couple of days ago, this new official look at Thor: Love and Thunder revealed better looks at the two women who will most likely steal the show in MCU’s next film, Thor: Love and Thunder.
Tessa Thompson returns for her third MCU appearance as King Valkyrie and yes, she looks like royalty.
Next to her is Natalie Portman who has very much been transformed by the Marvel regimen and become freaking Mighty Thor. I mean look at her! This multiversal version of Padme would’ve given Anakin something to think about if he tried to turn against her.
And in the bottom-right corner is, supposedly, our first human version of Bast, the Panther Goddess who granted the Wakandans the power of the Black Panther. If that is her, she looks absolutely stunning.

Vanity Fair’s Newest Issue is a Dream for ‘Star Wars’ Fans
It’s been a while since I’ve felt like this about Star Wars. You know that feeling. That warm, endlessly joyful feeling in your very soul that only Star Wars can give you. Well, I got that feeling yesterday when June’s issue of Vanity Fair was released online, bringing with it a bunch of jaw-dropping Star Wars goodness.
Annie Leibovitz is at again with another epic showcasing of Star Wars at its finest. But this time, I know for a fact the long wait will live up to the hype.

‘Multiverse of Madness’ Is a Great Next Step in Doctor Strange’s Story
Yesterday I went and watched Multiverse of Madness again in theaters (IMAX, of course) to not only see the film featuring my favorite superhero of all time again but to grasp the story details a little bit better. And to my great surprise, I enjoyed the film even more!
My first viewing was a rollercoaster of emotions to absorb. From the shock of knowing that Wanda was the unapologetic villain of the movie to the roiling adventure that literally feels like it’s going nonstop for two hours straight. It was a lot to take in and I missed a lot.
So, with this second viewing, there were some things I enjoyed even more like the action sequences, of course, but most importantly, the emotional beats.
Since Doctor Strange, Stephen Strange has barely had any character development outside of his growing skill with his spellbook. To finally resume his arc by forcing him to literally face alternate versions of himself to better understand his place in the multiverse was simply brilliant.
In this post, I want to dive into the absolutely stellar character progression in this film and how it all came to be.
