Yes, the title contains a pun but I couldn’t help it. The word enchanting is exactly the adjective I thought was an appropriate description of this film because that’s precisely what it was.
Enchanted is one of the best Disney movies with a clever approach to the classic fairy tale story. In fact, it’s also one of the funniest Disney films with a heap of humor that’ll have you laughing out loud. Disenchanted is not as amusing, instead taking a slightly darker approach devoid of the naivety and wonder of the first film and bringing the characters to a disheartening reality.
I was expecting a sequel that was going to suffer the sequel curse but this movie did not. In fact, it was fantastic.
With EGOT Alan Menken providing the movie with its musical score the film has that classic Disney vibe I’ve been craving. And boy, did he deliver. I was absolutely sucked into this film and its levels of drama. And while the story beats are purposefully cliche I loved that about this movie.
The movie currently has a 44% score on Rotten Tomatoes so I was expecting to be just as disappointed as I was with that cursed live-action version of Pinocchio. Instead, I had a great time watching this movie. It even made me cry and in my opinion, that means a Disney film has fulfilled its purpose.
I’m giving Disenchanted 91 out of 100 and 4 out of 5 stars.
I thank you for reading and I hope you have a fantastic day.
