Ranking the Movies of 2022: From Worst to Best

2022 has been an exciting year if you’re a cinema lover. There have been some disappointments along the way but for the most part, moviemakers have brought their A-game, delivering flicks with a simple promise that should be the basis of all films; entertainment. Movies like Top Gun: Maverick, Avatar, and RRR reminded us of the majesty of cinema, providing experiences audiences will never forget, while other movies like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, All Quiet on the Western Front, and Everything Everywhere All at Once hit viewers in their emotional cores, reminding us of the power of a great, shockingly human story.

I’ve seen a lot of movies this year. making this the longest year-in-review movie list I’ve ever had to rank, so with no further delay, let’s get to this list.

The TV Shows of 2022: Ranked from Worst to Best

I’ve just recently gotten into watching television shows and it’s definitely been fun. Each month brings new series to enjoy with some series becoming primary highlights of the year. Today, I share my ranking of the television shows I’ve watched this year. Enjoy!

13. The Quest

Just because I have this reality-fantasy series that came on Disney+ in last on my list doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy it. In fact, I binge-watched it in two days. I was sucked into the simple storylines and honestly, I hope there’s another season.

12. Tales of the Jedi

I liked the concept of this new animated series from Dave Filoni but it just did not capture me in the way I expected. The fact that its six episodes only highlighted Ahsoka and Count Dooku was the most disappointing thing about the series.

Dooku’s episodes were fascinating, there’s no question about that, but Ahsoka’s episodes felt like it barely added anything to her story that’s already been fleshed out so extensively.

I’m hoping if we get more shorts they can be more creative moving forward.

‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’ Shows That Dreamworks Is Back, Baby!

Puss in Boots, the lovable musketeer-coded feline scoundrel who appeared for the first time in Shrek 2 is one of my favorite animated characters of all time. When he got his own film in 2011 I went to see it with my family and I enjoyed the heck out of it. I’m happy to say its sequel, The Last Wish, is even better.

There are fun animated movies and then there are animated movies that take you for a ride. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is a simple tale laced with stunning animation and a slew of great fairy tale characters that makes this animated film one of the best in recent memory.

But more importantly, it has a terrifying villain. I’m talking genuinely scary. I won’t go into much detail because that would involve the film’s plot but it’s really nice to see an animated villain that strikes fear into my heart again.

‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’: This Sequel Lives Up to the Hype

Three years ago Knives Out hit theaters around Thanksgiving and it was an instant hit. Daniel Craig starred as a brilliant detective with a distinctly Southern twang, Benoit Blanc, in a murder mystery that was well-written and delivered plenty of twists and turns along the way. When it was announced that there would be a sequel, I was excited but understandably skeptical. Could Rian Johnson do it again?

Could he make another delightfully witty, genuinely shocking whodunnit with a cast of characters we’d never forget? Spoiler alert, he did. In fact, Glass Onion, in my opinion, is better than the original.

My Experience with ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’

James Cameron has done the seemingly impossible yet again. To this day, nobody does visual effects like Cameron. For three hours straight you’re sitting in a theater staring at the screen gobsmacked by how incredible every single shot is. While the film garners an undebatable five stars for visual effects the actual story leaves a lot to be desired.

Its predecessor, Avatar, is a film that came out thirteen years ago and isn’t exactly the most memorable movie ever made. There aren’t any quotes that really stand out and the story is surprisingly forgettable. Because Cameron realizes this, Avatar: The Way of Water is an invisible soft reboot of the first film, introducing new characters who follow jarringly similar story beats to the first movie.
