‘Tár’ Will Earn Cate Blanchett Her Another Oscar but Was the Movie Good?

I watched Tár today and there’s no denying Blanchett’s deserved march to yet another Oscar win. She’s just so profoundly moving in her acting, so undeniably brilliant in every minute twitch, sniff, or sigh. In every choice, she makes her facial expressions. I cannot express enough how wonderful it is to watch Blanchett at her best in a movie because it truly is outstanding. That being said, Tár is a dreary movie in its inception.

Its grey cinematography is depressing, appropriately so in the context of the film, the scenes sometimes drag on for far too long, and by the end of the movie, I felt like the story could’ve been forty minutes shorter. Not to mention the fact that there is no music besides the music presented whenever she’s composing.

Despite my personal boredom with the movie, I believe it definitely deserves its six Oscar nominations, including Best Picture. While it is a movie that felt, at times, lengthy there were moments that will stick with me in this film thanks to Blanchett’s incredible performance which is the obvious driving force of this film.

I’ll give it 4 out of 5 stars and 88 out of 100.

Angela Basset Has Just Made Marvel History

It’s very hard for actors to be taken seriously in blockbusters but Angela Bassett’s incredible portrayal of Queen Ramonda in Wakanda Forever was an exception. She has now become the first actor to be nominated for an Academy Award in a Marvel movie which is beyond exciting. The Black Panther franchise is still the template of the superhero genre at its finest. Ryan Coogler not only beat the sequel curse, but he also showed that his stories truly are, pun intended, marvel-ous.

Angela Bassett Makes Marvel Studios History!

Last night’s return to the Golden Globes was a somewhat enjoyable evening with lots of exciting outcomes for the actors who won. Ke Huy Quan won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor before delivering an emotional speech that had me tearing up. Michelle Yeoh earned her first Golden Globe win which wasn’t surprising but exciting to see.

Of course, the most exciting moment of the night for personally was seeing Angela Bassett win Best Supporting Actress for her role in Wakanda Forever.

She did such a fantastic job bringing such depth to Queen Ramonda in this film that she totally deserved her win. I’m so excited for her and I hope that she gets an Oscar for her incredible performance.

‘The Menu’ Is a Must-Watch

There are a lot of movies that often seem similar or predictable. The Menu, from its first scene, catches you off guard with its abruptness, settling you into a story that promises to be an interesting ride.

Its cast is perfectly assembled, Ralph Fiennes is unforgettable in this role as renowned Chef Slowik, and Anya-Taylor Joy once again proves that if she’s starring in a project, it has a chance of being really good.

I won’t go into too much detail about this film because it’s best if you don’t know the plot but I will say this; it’s brilliant, so pleasing to watch, and it made me want a cheeseburger.

I’m giving The Menu 4.5 out of 5 stars and a solid 95 out of 100. I thank you for reading and I hope you have a fantastic day.

‘Willow’: An Underrated Fantasy Series That Needs a Second Season

For the past seven weeks, I’ve been watching Willow, a series that I don’t think anyone was asking for yet now that we’ve gotten it I can’t imagine it not existing.

It’s not a show that takes itself too seriously which has been relaxing. It’s like watching a simple sitcom like Stargate with lovable characters going on weekly adventures. I love the diversity of the cast, I love all of the romantic drama, and I’m loving the story. It feels like I’m reading a good old-fashioned YA fantasy novel and that has been the most rewarding element of the series.

Next week, Willow comes to an end and I’m honestly bummed about the prospect of not being able to watch this show anymore. I’m hoping a second season is already in the works because I want to continue following these characters and their storylines.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a fantastic day.
