Well, I’ve just come back from seeing Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and I have thoughts…oh, so many thoughts. First off, it’s almost necessary to see this movie on IMAX. Its visually stimulating CGI-fest of world-building is utterly transcendent in that format, allowing you to become immersed in every minute, incredibly fascinating detail. Plus, the sound design is incredible.
Secondly, it took Thanos ten years to become a character I was excited about. This is only Majors’ second appearance as Kang but he’s constantly stealing the show. His performance in this movie is top-tier, delivering a powerful, thoughtful, almost Vader-like presence that makes you pay attention when he’s onscreen. Unfortunately, the story ultimately nerfs him because he’s so incredibly powerful that if he was really at his top game Ant-Man and co. would be toast in minutes. I found that somewhat disappointing.

Third, and this is where the cons come in, the story isn’t as jumbled as I thought it would be but it definitely has issues. Many of the jokes kind of landed flat for me, there were too many foreseeable save-the-day moments, and like I said before when you dampen the power of your antagonist to allow the heroes to win it cheapens the overall impact of the story.
That being said, Quantumania is a heap of fun in theaters. If you’re looking to have a good time watching a movie that allows itself to be a goofy, epic ride then this is a film you will definitely enjoy. If you’re expecting something along the lines of an Avengers film don’t. This is still a very contained Ant-Man film, it’s just now they’re in the Quantum Realm.
Like I said before, I have a lot to say about this movie and its implications on what’s to come but I’ll leave it at this: I’m giving this 83 out of 100 and 3 out of 5 stars.
I thank you for reading and I hope you have a fantastic day.
