A New Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. Trailer Is Here

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has already showed in the first two trailers its humor, eye-popping visuals, intense action, and a new character that I’m elated to see a little further. Now a new trailer has come out with even more of all of these factors. Here it is.

This new trailer is undoubtedly the best one so far. The song for the trailer is impeccable and had me still humming the catchy tune after the trailer was over. I loved that they started the trailer off with the humorous banter between Gamora and Star-Lord about the fact that she has a rifle. Only the Guardians of the Galaxy would have a conversation about what weapon each person has in the midst of a giant, tentacle monster falling from the sky. That’s classic Guardians stuff.

I also enjoyed seeing more of the adorable Baby Groot. I already think that, besides Mantis who is still a complete mystery, he’s my favorite character in the movie. He’s so cute but is just as tough as the rest of the team. I can’t wait to see him in action.

What mainly excited me about this trailer was that amazing new world they showed. It was so beautiful and one thing I love in movies are gorgeous, otherworldly settings.

And yes, I still haven’t the slightest clue of what’s going on. That’s the important thing. When I watch a trailer for a movie I want the content to be substantial enough for me to be enthusiastic about the film but not enough content where I can already tell what’s going to happen. Every single Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 trailer has left me ready for May 5 and completely clueless about what this movie is about. And to top the icing on the cake now we’ve seen Star-Lord’s dad. What?! That’s exciting.

All in all this is a fantastic trailer and I’m counting down the days until its premiere.

What I Think About The Lego Batman Movie

The Lego Batman Movie

The Lego Movie was great because it was hilarious. I mean it was a very, very funny movie. From the comical song “Everything Is Awesome” to the Milennium Falcon showing up with Lando, C-3PO and Chewbacca trying to find Naboo so they could go to a party. And yes, Batman was the funniest character in The Lego movie with his grumpy personality and his “sweet” ninja moves. This is the thing though. While I watched The Lego Movie I never felt like I was watching a children’s film. Yes it was an animated movie and yes it was for children but even I could enjoy it at the age of fifteen. With The Lego Batman Movie I couldn’t and let me explain why.

It has been three years later and I am much older and mature than at the time The Lego Movie came out but that’s not the reason I didn’t enjoy this movie as much. It just wasn’t as inventive and genius as The Lego Movie. For the first, I’d say twenty or so minutes, the only main characters in the movie were Batman, The Joker, and a little bit of his butler, Alfred, and I have to say this was when the movie was at its best. Batman is so funny. I was chuckling throughout the entire first section of the movie. In fact there was one part that was so funny it literally brought tears to my eyes. Then the other characters came into the mix such as Robin and the new commissioner Gordon/Batgirl and the movie began to decline rapidly.

The jokes, which at the beginning of the film, were smart and hilarious became corny and not that great. The story ended up going in circles about family and Batman not wanting to bring the notion of a family back into his life because he was afraid to lose people who are close to him again. It was the longest hour and forty-seven minute movie I’ve ever watched…and I don’t mean that in a good way. For at least an hour of the movie I knew exactly how it was going to finish but it took way too long to get to the point. At the end it seemed like the writers were trying to squeeze tears out of the audience with this too long sentimental moment that had me sighing in exasperation. When the movie ended and the credits came on I was so relieved. I was like, “Yes, the movie’s finally over!”

Another thing this movie missed were the songs. I was getting a serious Rocky IV vibe from this movie and I’ll tell you why. Rocky III has one of the best movie songs ever with “Eye of the Tiger.” That song was so good that Rocky IV tried to do the same thing and had, I think, three songs. The songs for Rocky IV however were very corny. Unfortunately that’s what happened with The Lego Batman Movie. “Everything Is Awesome” was such a perfect song for The Lego Movie that they tried to make some good songs for The Lego Batman Movie and ultimately failed. Now Batman had his own theme song which I will say is very funny and should have been the only song in the movie. Alas they went overboard with the music and therefore lost me in that category as well.

Now I will say the animation was spectacular. The action scenes were amazing and really had me nodding my head in appreciation. I watched it in a regular theater but I definitely see why it was put in IMAX. That category of the movie was spot on.

Even though I didn’t like the movie as much I still think it’s a great children’s movie. It really explained the value of family and I always think it’s nice when a children’s movie or tv show teaches an important life lesson. This movie would definitely be an A+ for children between the ages of three and eight years old. Older children might not enjoy it as much but I’m sure they’ll still love it. This movie is definitely not catered to people eleven years old and up. It’s just a little too corny. If you have young children though I highly recommend you take them to this film. They will have a splendid time.

This is how stark the contrast was for me and the type of movies I usually watch. The last movie I watched in the movies was Rogue One. Yeah, the movie where everyone on the poster died. That’s a lot different from The Lego Batman Movie. Now I’m not saying I don’t like PG movies. I watched Zootopia last year (congratulations on the Oscar by the way) and I loved it. I loved how they really brought to mind how animals would live if they lived like us. And the area where the mice resided was genius and hilarious. I also watched Frozen and I loved that film as well. Who doesn’t love Frozen though? I haven’t seen Moana yet but one day I will definitely watch it because I do enjoy Disney’s animated films. The Lego Batman Movie just happened to be one of those films where the content was too young for me.

Lego Batman is once again the highlight of the film. He is so funny that I kind of like him more than Ben Aflleck’s version of Batman. Sorry Ben but you’ve got to step it up. If the movie had solely been about Batman and there weren’t any sidekicks I have no doubt it would’ve been much more enjoyable. Unfortunately that was not the case so I give this film a solid B.

Well that’s my opinion on The Lego Batman Movie. Thank you for reading my review. Be sure to come back tomorrow because I will be talking about the new Guardians of the Galaxy trailer. Until then I hope you have a great day.

The Best Movie Commercials from Super Bowl LI

Yesterday I wrote about the Super Bowl commercials and which ones were my favorite. Today I will talk about some of the exciting new movie trailers that aired during that wonderful game.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

This was the first movie commercial that aired and it was amazing. I’m very excited to see the new additions to the Guardians, Yondu, Nebula, and Mantis. I already know Yondu and Nebula but who is Mantis. Yondu has his awesome arrow that he can use as a deadly weapon just by whistling. Nebula is like Gamora, she uses sword like weapons and is scientifically enhanced. What will Mantis’s powers be except for her telepathic abilities? I can’t wait to see.

I loved that the commercial started with that eye-popping shot of the Guardians speaking to a golden lady in a beautiful building. Then it showed a lot of other stuff that wasn’t in the other trailers that was exciting. I loved the humor in the commercial because it’s the Guardians and they’re hilarious. The great thing is it looks like this Guardians of the Galaxy is going to be funnier than the last one. After that commercial I am now very excited to see this movie in May. It’s going to be so good. That commercial also reminded me of how vibrant and colorful the Guardians of the Galaxy movies are. Whereas most of the Marvel movies aren’t visually stunning Guardians of the Galaxy is the exact opposite.

This is the first movie in a long list of great blockbusters that will be appearing in May through July. May can’t seem to come fast enough.

Logan

This is going to be a very, very good movie. I judge a movie off its trailers and commercials and this movie is five stars in both of those realms. I’ll be the first to tell you I’m not a big fan of X-Men movies. In fact the only one I’ve watched all the way through was X-Men: Days of Future Past a few years ago. It wasn’t horrible but I can only watch it once. This is the first X-Men movie I’m actually very excited to see. I also love that it’s rated R so they don’t have to hold anything back.

Did this commercial really bring anything new to the table? Not really. The end was the best part because it showed an action scene that involved Logan and the girl fighting a few baddies. That got me super excited. I can’t wait until March.

Pirates of the Caribbean: A Dead Man’s Tale

This movie had one of the best first trailers I have ever seen. It showed nothing but it explained so much. I’ve been waiting to see some new footage from the movie and I’m glad to say I wasn’t disappointed. There’s going to be a lot of dead pirates causing havoc in the Caribbean. I’m glad that the commercial still didn’t really show anything like the first trailer did. I have no idea what’s going on and I don’t want to know until I’m watching it in the movie theater.

The interesting thing about the commercial was Captain Jack Sparrow. Has he become some sort of dead pirate to hide from the dead people who are looking for him? Maybe, maybe not, who knows. I just can’t wait to see this Pirates of the Caribbean. I have no doubt it’s going to be the best installment in the franchise.

Transformers: The Last Knight

And last but not least is the Transformers commercial. I am ecstatic to see this film. I was one of the few people who actually enjoyed Transformers: Age of Extinction. Yes, the story wasn’t very polished but the action was incredible. And there was a lot of it. I watched that movie three times in the movie theaters and every time I came out grinning from ear to ear. It was the loudest movie I’ve ever been to. I mean the seats and floor were rumbling with the loudness of the movie. Now another Transformers movie has come and judging from the trailers and the commercial the story looks like it’ll be a lot better.

I have two big questions from the trailer and the commercial. First of all what is this giant alien planet looking thing coming towards Earth? Is it some sort of spaceship with a whole bunch of evil Transformers aboard it ready to cause some serious harm to the people on Earth? Or is like the Death Star and has some sort of laser beam that can blow up planets? I don’t know but I can’t wait to see. Secondly why is Optimus Prime bad? He obviously knows what he’s doing so why is he fighting his friends? He must be under some sort of spell because if you look closely his eyes are purple instead of blue. Maybe he’s mind controlled by whatever is on that giant metal orb. Whatever the case all my questions will be answered in due time.

So these were my favorite movie commercials that aired during Super Bowl LI. Now I have to wait until Star Wars: The Last Jedi will eventually show a teaser.

My Top Ten Marvel Superheroes

Marvel has been spitting out great blockbusters for the last nine years. With those great films come an awesome array of amazing superheroes. After last year’s introduction to three new heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe a.k.a MCU my excitement to see more newcomers appear in later films has grown. Until that time these are my ten favorite Marvel superheroes.

10. Spider-Man

538cd3628a05e Spider-Man is awesome and with Tom Holland’s latest version of the iconic character this web slinging hero has become that much more enjoyable. I, however, am not a super fan of Spider-Man. Yes he is funny, his abilities are great, and seeing him alongside characters like Iron Man is goosebump inducing but I happen to like nine other superheroes more than him. I am still very excited for Spider-Man: Homecoming this July. I hope it’s good.

9. Ant-Man

54ad72b6084a0 When Ant-Man was coming out in 2015 I didn’t know if I was going to like this new superhero. The name Ant-Man sounded silly and didn’t make me overly excited. After watching the movie I was impressed with Ant-Man’s abilities but he still wasn’t Iron Man or Captain America caliber…until Captain America: Civil War. When he turned from Ant-Man into Giant-Man I about lost it. It was totally unexpected and definitely one of the highlights of the entire film. His role in Civil War might’ve been limited but after that jaw dropping moment he has deservedly risen in the ranks of cool superheroes.

8. Falcon

537baa87dbe40

Falcon was an awesome addition to the MCU. When Sam Wilson showed up in Captain America: The Winter Soldier I had no idea that he was going to become a superhero, let alone an Avenger. When he fought Ant-Man it was cool because his suit was different and better. His abilities in Civil War however were amazing. I loved his wings which could turn into a shield. How awesome is that! I also loved his drone, Red Wing. That was another nice addition to his character. Even though he still would’ve been my eighth favorite superhero without these great new abilities it definitely cemented him in the eighth spot.

7. Vision

537bc95e556b4

Vision is awesome. He is so ridiculously powerful he can pick up Thor’s hammer! Wow. Unfortunately he’s still trying to discover the depth of the power he wields from that destructive mind stone lodged in his forehead so he basically doesn’t do anything except pass through solid objects, shoot yellow lasers, and fly. I mean during the airport fight in Civil War he barely did anything. He was basically the referee of the dispute. He was there to make sure things didn’t get out of hand. That shows how cool he is because he doesn’t even have to have the best abilities in the world and he’s my seventh favorite superhero. I hope he’ll unlock a little more of his potential and do something really cool before he (and hopefully this doesn’t happen) comes to his demise at the hands of Thanos.

6. Scarlet Witch

537bc2375dfb9

Scarlet Witch is pretty cool. After Avengers: Age of Ultron I was excited to see a new female superhero join the Avengers ranks. Then I was even more excited that she would be in Civil War. She was great too. I loved that they displayed more of her abilities. It’s also really cool because she’s so powerful she can beat Vision which is extraordinary. I can’t wait to see what she’ll be up to in the next Avengers.

5. Black Widow

537ba41563b66

Black Widow is awesome. When she first showed up in Iron Man 2 I didn’t like her that much. Then after the first Avengers and Captain America: The Winter Soldier I was still wasn’t that impressed. She was, at the time, only a little cooler than Hawkeye. After Age of Ultron they finally started to reveal her background a little more and I was able to truly understand who she was. Then in Civil War you can really see how she’s become such a leader in the Avengers. She’s no longer the only female Avenger whose abilities are kind of boring and whose story is so-so. She is actually one of the toughest superheroes because she’s not like Captain America who has been scientifically enhanced. And she doesn’t have very impressive abilities like being able to shoot lasers or summon lightning. She only has her athletic skills, electric bracers, and her tiny black sticks to use and she can literally fight Ant-Man. That’s pretty awesome. I can’t wait to see her again in the next Avengers and I really hope that she gets her own movie soon. She deserves it.

4. Iron Man

55b6a28ef24fa.jpg

If you would’ve told me five years ago Iron Man would end up being my fourth favorite superhero I would’ve laughed. Iron Man is great but he has, surprisingly, diminished in awesomeness. While there were old characters getting cooler and great new characters appearing Iron Man has stayed the same since the very first Iron Man. Tony Stark has changed in the last nine years because he has faced a whole bunch of difficult challenges. Unfortunately as the list of Avengers grows larger Iron Man’s spot in the top drops further.

3. Captain America

537ba5b368b7d

I was first introduced to Captain America in the first Avengers which was not a great introduction. He was overly stern, didn’t fit in well with the team, and his outfit was horrendous. I didn’t like Captain America very much. In fact he was my least favorite Avenger. After The Winter Soldier my view of Steve Rogers was changed forever. He was actually a great leader and the most impressive thing about him is all he has is a shield and his scientifically enhanced endurance and strength. That’s why he rose to top three in the list. After the conflict he faced with Iron Man I can’t wait to see him in Avengers: Infinity War. Will he still be Captain America or will he be something different? I’ll have to wait and see.

2. Black Panther

537ba26276348

Black Panther is ridiculously cool. I had no knowledge of Black Panther until last year and I was so surprised. When I saw him on the trailers and commercials for Civil War I knew he was going to be awesome but he was even better than I expected. I still get excited every time I watch Civil War when he first attacks Bucky and he unfurls those deadly claws. That is an awesome part. He’s so cool that I can’t wait to see his standalone movie next year. I’m so excited to see his homeland of Wakanda and the people of that secluded country.

1. Doctor Strange

537ba85979532

I had no idea that after November 4th Doctor Strange would be my favorite superhero but he is. His powers are so amazing that I was stunned. I also loved that even though he could make mirror dimensions and could rewind time he still has his basic weapons like the fire lasso he used to fight those sorcerers. And not only is he cool but he has the best companion ever, the cloak. That cloak is so funny and great that it’s kind of a superhero of its own. Doctor Strange was so awesome that as I was watching the movie all I could think was how will he be with the Avengers? I mean can you imagine him floating in the air and while a great battle is happening around him with heroes like Captain America, Iron Man and The Hulk he’ll be up there making the world around him shift and bend in mind boggling ways. I’m so, so very happy that he’s going to be in Thor: Raganarok so I can get a taste of what him alongside The Avengers will be like. Until then I’ll enjoy watching him face off against Dormammu on Blu-Ray.

Well those are my ten favorite Marvel superheroes…for the moment. I can’t wait until May to watch Guardians of the Galaxy. Who knows. Maybe there’ll be another new hero from that movie who breaches my top ten list.

The Eagle Huntress and Why You Should Watch It

Why I Loved this Beautiful Documentary

This documentary, narrated by Daisy Ridley, follows the wonderful story of a teenage girl named Ahshopan who becomes the first eagle huntress in Mongolia.

We are introduced to her at a boarding school located in a small town miles from her home. It’s the last day of school for that week and she is taken home by her father on their cute moped. Her family are nomads that live in a simple circular hut in the midst of a vast barren plain edged with beautiful rocky mountains. Her family consists of a younger sister, younger brother, her mother, and her father.

Her father is one of the few remaining eagle hunters in Mongolia. For centuries Mongolian men found eagles and used them to hunt for food to support their families. Since she was a little girl she loved watching her father put on the eagle hunters’ garb and go out hunting. As she grew older her father allowed her to play with his eagle as he saw her interest in being a hunter.

She eventually gets a baby eaglet of her own and then her journey as a eagle huntress begins. This is a beautiful story that shows both her and her eagle’s growth as a team. She faces a little bit of adversity from the male elders who believe that women shouldn’t be eagle hunters but through sheer love of the role she doesn’t let anything sway her from what she wants to do. It was nice to see her father teach her in the ways of an eagle hunter.

One of my favorite parts of the film is when her father teaches her how to let an eagle land on her arm. That scene was powerful because most people (including me) would be mortally afraid to have a large bird like that fly full speed onto your arm. This fearless girl, however, was smiling the entire time and perfectly caught the eagle on her arm as if she had been doing it all her life.

The cinematography was gorgeous. The people who made this documentary filmed it on a low budget but they did such a fantastic job with their drones and cameras you would never know. They perfectly illustrated how expansive and untouched the land was. There’s one part where they’re filming in an area where there is nothing but fields of pristine snow and ice as far as the eye can see. The quiet peacefulness of that area could be felt through the screen.

The videographers perfectly followed the eagles as they flew at all sorts of different speeds. I loved watching the eagles flying over the ground so you could really see how fast they are going. At times they also put cameras on the eagle so you can see the world from the bird’s eyes. It was a very beautiful movie to watch.

I loved this documentary because there are many cultures throughout the world where men are dominant and they don’t let women or girls achieve their dreams. Ahshopan however stepped outside of the box of what Mongolian women are expected to do and did something extraordinary. It’s also beautiful because her father encouraged her to pursue being an eagle huntress rather than stop her. This shows that the world is slowly becoming more inclusive for everyone. I definitely think this is the perfect film to show young girls because it’s empowering. A girl might watch this documentary and want to do something that she thought she could never do until she saw the fearlessness of Ahshopan.

I give it a 93 out of 100 because it does end abruptly. I came away from the movie wanting to know a little more about Ahshopan’s end story but the movie was perfect besides that. There wasn’t much music but they did integrate some here and there, the cinematography was beautiful, and I am so glad to have witnessed another piece of history being written.

If you can’t see this documentary at any nearby indie movie theaters then I urge you to watch it when it’s available on the internet. You will not be disappointed. At the end of the movie you will have laughed, cried, cheered, and enjoyed the simple beauty of Ahshopan’s wonderful journey that, thanks to cameras, has been told.
