I Miss Aliens in ‘Star Wars’

Star Wars is one of the most successful stories ever created and part of that reason is because of its remarkable escapism. For a couple of hours, you are literally transported to another galaxy where heroes and heroines larger than life fight evil on a movie-to-movie or show-show basis. And while Disney has given us so many wonderful Star Wars stories lately there has been something that has been really missing for me with these new stories; the aliens.

In the Original Trilogy, three of the main characters were not human: C-3PO, R2-D2, and Chewbacca. They were extraordinary characters with intriguing backgrounds and what they added to the overall story cannot be overstated. Jar Jar Binks isn’t a fan-favorite but his presence reminded us that this was a story set in a galaxy where aliens do exist. And don’t get me started on The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels which gave us a plethora of fascinating alien characters: Ahsoka, Hera Syndulla, Zeb, Asajj Ventress, Cad Bane, Savage Opress, and so many more. And then I think about the live-action movies and series Disney has given us in the last few years and the lack of alien characters is almost criminal.

‘The Bad Batch’ Is Good But Kind of Boring

Last week’s episode of The Bad Batch left me very underwhelmed. I can honestly say that I was not as disinterested in this week’s plot as last week’s and yet, when the credits began to roll, I still felt a sense of emptiness.

This post will contain spoilers so continue reading at your own peril.

Ahsoka Tano and Kanan Jarrus Are the Perfect Jedi, Here’s Why

I’ve been wanting to do a post highlighting Kanan Jarrus and why I think he’s the perfect Jedi but then I watched The Clone Wars the other day and I realized that he and Ahsoka are both fine examples of the perfect Jedi. And it is two distinct scenes that I think of to prove this point.

SPOILERS FOR The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels AHEAD!

The Last Episodes of ‘The Clone Wars’ Are So Amazing!

So I decided to watch the last three episodes of The Clone Wars last night and I think I kind of forgot just how epic and fantastic the end of the seventh season truly is.

Revenge of the Sith is pretty much my favorite Star Wars movie because it is the darkest Star Wars movie. The tragedy of the Jedi and their instant fall as Emperor Palpatine has his diabolical plan realized is unlike any other event in Star Wars. It affects all Jedi and turns the story of Star Wars into something very serious and interesting, leading into the aftermath which sees the likes of Kanan, Ezra, Cal Kestis, Ahsoka, and Luke Skywalker having to navigate their way through a galaxy whose entire goal is to see them destroyed.

The Clone Wars is regarded as one of the best things to ever happen to Star Wars because it doesn’t take itself lightly. There is sadness weaved throughout the series and the last three episodes of The Clone Wars completely embrace the darkness of Revenge of the Sith in both tone and circumstance in a way that is astounding.

It’s a piece of the puzzle that I didn’t know I needed but now I can’t imagine not knowing about Ahsoka/Rex and how they both dealt with the events of Order 66.

It’s sad, it’s appropriately dark, and it actually makes Revenge of the Sith better.

I’m Watching ‘The Clone Wars’ Over Again

The Mandalorian may be over but my Star Wars adventure is far from complete. After the exciting inclusions to the series that featured direct nods to the cartoons which I have been faithfully watching over the years, I decided, once Season 2 had ended, to watch The Clone Wars over again and then Star Wars: Rebels.

I’m so excited to be nearly through the first season already. Seeing “Snips” at the time be so reckless (like her master, honestly) and unsure of herself is kind of wowing. She has grown so much over the years and when I think of her inclusion in The Mandalorian it’s just stunning to think how much she has matured and become a different person.

Plus, I just really love the banter between Anakin and Obi-Wan in this show. It’s really fun (and funny.) As I finish each season, I’ll update you and share my thoughts.

Until then, I thank you for reading and I hope you have a spectacular day. May the Force be with you.

Who’s Going To Save Grogu?!

Watching Revenge of the Sith this past weekend reminded me of the startling realization of a single line that Ahsoka Tano says to Mando when speaking about the chance a Jedi can teach Baby Grogu in Chapter 13 of The Mandalorian: “Then again, there aren’t many Jedi left.”

Yes, there are barely any Jedi that exist (even less so in 1983 when a dying Yoda told Luke Skywalker, “When gone am I, the last of the Jedi will you be.”) but there are a chosen few that, thanks to Disney, could answer Grogu’s call and save him from a dismal fate. The question is, who could that be? The first obvious answer is Ahsoka.
