Throwback Friday: Why I Love My Local Indie Theater

I love movie theaters because every single one is different. The AMC theater in Times Square is nothing like the AMC theater in Disney World. Two theaters under the same franchise in the same town can be completely different. So when I went to my local indie theater for the first time to watch a beautiful documentary called The Eagle Huntress I was excited. You see, I had never been to such a small theater. How would my experience be, I kept asking myself. Would I like it?

I was pleasantly surprised. At the ticket counter, unlike regular movie theaters, there are special shirts specifically for the theater that you can buy. The popcorn bag sizes are cute and petite compared to the usual giant bags of popcorn. The soft drink sizes are also a lot more reasonable than a small soda you would get at AMC. There was local candy that I could get as well as the obvious candy choices like M&M’s.

The service was great; everyone was very friendly and helpful. That’s something you don’t experience in regular movie theaters. The theater only had three studios but they were very impressive. Two of the studios were large enough to fit about sixty people while the third studio that I went to could only hold about thirty people. The studios and the theater’s bathroom were very clean which is always nice.

As nice as this theater was I still love regular theaters because that’s where you can go see blockbusters in IMAX which is one of my favorite things to do. It’s refreshing to watch indie films though because they aren’t like normal blockbusters where something is exploding every twenty or so minutes. They instead are good movies that you really have to listen to which I love. If it wasn’t for my local indie theater I would’ve never known about Ahshopan’s great story in The Eagle Huntress. I can’t wait to go see another wonderful documentary or a lovely indie film that manages to engage me in its quiet storytelling.

I will always love IMAX theaters for the wonderful memories they have given me all of these years but my local indie theater now has a special place in my heart.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a spectacular day.

The Live-Action Remake of ‘The Lion King’ Will Have Some Unexpected Surprises

One of the few gripes people (and myself) had of the trailers for The Lion King is that it seemed that this remake wouldn’t be any different than the animated version that came out twenty-five years ago. Well, I was wrong. It’s actually going to have quite a few changes.

Yesterday I thought to myself, “Hmm, let me see what the runtime for this new version of The Lion King is going to be?”

I went to IMDb and first looked at the runtime for the original The Lion King. It sits at one hour and twenty-eight minutes. The new one; one hour and fifty-eight minutes! Yeah, the live-action remake is going to be thirty minutes longer than the original version! I am so thrilled. It’ll be like watching an extended version of the story I have grown to love so much.

I’m hoping the thirty extra minutes can focus on more scenes between adult Simba and his friends, Pumbaa and Timon, the growing romantic relationship between Simba and Nala, and what was happening at Pride Rock after Mufasa’s death and Simba’s disappearance with Scar and his hyena army. That would be very cool.

Whatever the case, I’m glad to see that there will be new content to enjoy with this remake, for it gives a greater incentive to go watch the film.

How do you feel about The Lion King remake being thirty minutes longer than the original? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.

Throwback Friday: My Experience Watching ‘Avengers: Infinity War’

Oh my goodness everybody, Avengers: Infinity War is no joke! I’ve watched all of the Marvel movies and this is undoubtedly not only the best one but truly the entire culmination of the last eighteen movies. I sat in that movie theater waiting in silent anguish for the movie to start after all of the many trailers and once it did it latched on and didn’t let go literally from beginning to end. The audience was incredible. There were many laugh-out-loud (and silently funny) moments that had the audience in stitches. There were some fantastic character moments that just had the audience cheering with excitement. And then there were some legitimately heartbreaking moments that caused quite a bit of sniffling in the theater. When I walked out of that movie after its two hours and thirty-two-minute long run I was stunned. I felt like a young woman who had just seen the most amazing Marvel superhero movie that she had ever seen and couldn’t believe how shocking the film’s ending was…because that’s exactly what I was. My feet were lead, my eyebrows were furrowed in stunned confusion, and my mind was racing in an utter “WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!”

As I was walking out of that movie theater I saw this super awesome display for Solo: A Star Wars Story and I just had to take a picture with it.

Yeah. It’s just me sitting in the Millennium Falcon cockpit with my Star Wars buddies. 😊

Isn’t that an awesome display?! I’ve seen some cool displays in my time but this one takes the cake. Just imagining myself sitting in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon was an awesome experience. So then after that, I went to find the Infinity War display so I can take a new movie photo and when I did I was so excited.

This is the look of someone who just came out of Avengers: Infinity War. Yeah, it was a ride.

That expression on my face isn’t the look of disappointment. It’s the face of someone who doesn’t know what just happened. I’m telling you, the end of Infinity War is so unexpected and out of this world that usually an audience roars with applause at the end of a really good movie but this audience was mostly silent with the occasional murmur. All of us were legitimately stunned at what had just transpired.

All in all, Avengers: Infinity War will be a movie experience that I will undoubtedly remember for quite a while and it’s given Avengers 4 a very high bar to try to surpass.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a magical day.

Oh My Goodness, ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Is Going To Be a Very Long Movie!

The runtime for Avengers: Endgame has just been updated on AMC’s websites and yes, all of the rumors saying that Endgame will be the longest Marvel movie to date are true.

The movie’s going to be 3 hours and 2 minutes long. Yeah, it’s not a joke. That’s the official runtime of the film. My jaw dropped when I heard it. Avengers: Endgame is literally going to be longer than both The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers. Oh. My. Goodness!!!

I’m so excited and flabbergasted at the same time. The marketing for this film is so perfect because so much is not being shown and I am just buzzing with excitement to see this movie.

And by the way, I love long movies (if they’re really good) so this is great news for me.

How do you feel about the runtime? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a great day.
