Ranking the Movies of 2022: From Worst to Best

2022 has been an exciting year if you’re a cinema lover. There have been some disappointments along the way but for the most part, moviemakers have brought their A-game, delivering flicks with a simple promise that should be the basis of all films; entertainment. Movies like Top Gun: Maverick, Avatar, and RRR reminded us of the majesty of cinema, providing experiences audiences will never forget, while other movies like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, All Quiet on the Western Front, and Everything Everywhere All at Once hit viewers in their emotional cores, reminding us of the power of a great, shockingly human story.

I’ve seen a lot of movies this year. making this the longest year-in-review movie list I’ve ever had to rank, so with no further delay, let’s get to this list.

‘Amsterdam’: A Surprisingly Fantastic Ride

I’ve seen a lot of Christian Bale movies and all of them have been either decent to downright incredible. Amsterdam, the film starring big names like Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, John David Washington, Rami Malek, Anya Taylor-Joy, Robert di Niro, Chris Rock, Zoe Saldana, and Taylor Swift came out in October to an utterly dismal reception. Not only were the returning box-office numbers wince-worthy but the film received a less-than-enthusiastic reception.

A few days ago, I decided to watch it because it is now on HBO Max and low-and-behold, it was actually kind of amazing. The film features a story that starts as a whodunnit murder mystery and transforms into something much bigger that actually taught me some fascinating history I didn’t really know about.
