When one thinks of Palpatine his style sense isn’t usually the first thing that comes to mind but we forget, he was a senator of Naboo and Nubians have incredible style. Their robes are beyond stunning and when you really look at his various outfits throughout the franchise it becomes very clear very quickly, this man had some serious style. Enjoy!
Senator Palpatine

As Senator of Naboo, his clothes were not as grand as the Queen’s extensive and clearly gorgeous wardrobe but it was undoubtedly beautiful. With him wearing this almost old European style-influenced robe with the beautiful blue color, Palpatine’s style is subtle but very blatant at the same time.
Chancellor Palpatine

As Chancellor of the Republic, his wardrobe’s grandeur increased greatly, as is visible from the robe he’s wearing in this picture.
Even While Captured, I’m Still Stylish

At the beginning of Revenge of the Sith, we see Palpatine wearing a very simple yet undeniably gorgeous black robe that screams wealthiness and regality. The seamless tailoring, the sleeves, the length of the collar, everything about the design of this outfit reeks Naboo’s classic jaw-dropping style.
A Night on the Town Wear

If I am not mistaken, this is the outfit he wore while at the night show in Coruscant when he spoke with Anakin and honestly, can’t you tell? The embroidery on the black robe is simply stunning and the second robe underneath adds a hint of flair that one doesn’t come to expect with calculating villains like Palpatine. Phenomenal.

When Palpatine began to transition to becoming Darth Sidious we see him wearing red, the color of the Sith’s lightsabers. In this once again dazzling robe Palpatine looks formidable, menacing, and truly powerful with the aggrandized shoulders that makes Palpatine seem bigger than he actually is like a male bird puffing up his feathers.
In this robe, you get a sense that he’s dangerous and it’s not long before we learn how true that is.
Darth Sidious Arrives

Add a hood to the already menacing red and black robe and Darth Sidious truly comes to life in all of his frightening glory.
The Red Robe of Death

During the scene where Darth Sidious officially transforms the Republic into the Empire, he wears this bold (and actually REALLY BEAUTIFUL) red robe. It’s as if the blood of all the Jedi he has had murdered has stained this dazzling robe with the velvet hood. *shudder*
The Brown Robe with the Velvet

One thing Palpatine loved was velvet and even in this robe here we see velvet as a staple on the design. I like that this robe he wears while fighting Yoda isn’t entirely black. It affords that sense of regality that we had grown so used to in the prequel trilogy while still retaining the classic hooded look that makes him instantly recognizable.
The Classic Black Hooded Robe

Despite wearing what appears to be a very simple black hooded cloak in comparison to his other designs in the Prequel Trilogy the flair of elegance is shown via brooch. That simple accessory highlights the elegance that he manages to retain at all times, making him one of the most stylish villains in cinema.
Of these outfits, which is your favorite? For me, oh it’s a hard choice, I think I’d have to say I love the red robe. It’s so different and bold, and ridiculously beautiful that whenever I find myself looking at it I am utterly entranced.
I thank you for reading and I hope you have a lovely day. May the Force be with you.
