Peter Pan and Wendy has recently made its debut on Disney+, and yes, I loved it! I’m not sure how it compares to Disney’s 1953 Peter Pan because I’ve never seen it, but I can say that it was as magical as I’d hoped. And yes, Jude Law’s Captain Hook was perfect. So, I figured I’d share where I’d rank it among Disney’s live-action films. Enjoy!
11. Pinocchio
This movie excited me in the first half, but its final thirty minutes were so unbelievably dreadful that I knew instantly this was the worst of the Disney remakes.
Disney has been recreating their classics and making them live-action. Some have bad while others have been surprisingly great, even to the point of, in my opinion, surpassing their animated predecessors. In light of Cruella‘s recent addition to the lise, I wanted to share my ranking of the live-action Disney remakes. Enjoy!
13. Maleficent: Mistress of Evil
When I heard there was going to be a Maleficent sequel I was intrigued to see it. When I finally did I was more than disappointed. Much of the movie I complained about how awful it was and when it eventually concluded I was just tired of it all.
I will, however, be watching this again soon and maybe after a second viewing I’ll have a better appreciation. Maybe…
12. Dumbo
Dumbo made me cry, yes it did, but it ultimately is the most forgettable of the live-action movies. Its story was bland and I’m not a fan of Colin Farrel, hence my low ranking.
11. Mary Poppins Returns
Yes, Mary Poppins Returns isn’t as bad as these other two movies (mainly because of Emily Blunt who is one of my absolute favorite actresses) but thanks to Lin Manuel-Miranda’s awful English accent and the lackluster musical numbers this movie falls flat for me.
Last Friday I watched Cruella for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. No the movie wasn’t perfect but it was far more enjoyable than the likes of Mulan, both Maleficent films, and even Cinderella.
Because I liked it so much I decided to watch it again yesterday to see if its enjoyment would hold up and sure enough, it did.
You know those movies that aren’t particularly great stories but are super rewatchable. Cruella is one of those movies.
It’s a classic Disney story with no real authenticity, the writer’s timidity on making Cruella truly evil is a bit frustrating, and yes, the CGI is awful, but ultimately it might become the live-action Disney movie I’ll watch the most.
So what is it that makes Cruella so magnetic? Simple. The characters.
I can’t believe it. Usually, we’d have to wait until this Friday but because Disney+ has so many series with episodes dropping on Friday they decided to push it to Wednesdays and I couldn’t be more excited. Tomorrow we get to see where the God of Mischief’s story continues.
And, in case you didn’t know, like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, we’re going to be getting six long episodes. The first two episodes have already been confirmed to be 51 and 54 minutes long so we’ll have a great idea of what to expect with this series pertaining to its tone and storyline.
I can’t wait to see why this show is going to be so important to the whole scheme of Phase 4 and I’m just EXCITED!
Here’s a bonus treat.
I ran into this fascinating fan art from the incomparable Uzuri Art featuring none other than Cruella so I had to share it. 😁
I thank you for reading and I hope you have a great day.
Disney, as you very well know, has decided in the last decade to recreate (or simply elaborate) on a bunch of classic Disney stories that needed a modern revamp. And so we’ve gotten our fill of live-action Disney stories that have ranged from surprisingly entertaining to downright underwhelming (Maleficent, Cinderella, The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Mary Poppins Returns, and Mulan). Now, arrives their latest movie to join this long list, Cruella, and it is near perfect, darling.
Cruella de Vil is easily, in my opinion, the evilest villain in all of Disney thanks to her shocking mission to kill a hundred Dalmatian puppies and turn them into a coat in the 101 Dalmatians. She takes the idea of mean and cruel to the next level.
So how was Disney, the Mickey Mouse brand, going to make a movie about this woman’s origin story? It turns out Cruella is practically Cinderella, with a villainous flair.
It’s Hump Day and I’m feeling the urge to talk about Disney+. This past week has been exciting for all Disney fans as we have gotten two exclusive clips for Black Widow and Loki as well as first reactions for Disney’s latest live-action remake, Cruella. Enjoy!
If I’m being honest, this particular clip for Black Widow is kind of weak. We don’t know the stakes so there is no feeling, the fact that I’ve seen the best parts of this clip in the trailers over and over again makes this clip kind of underwhelming, and the lack of flow is kind of obvious.
Does this make me not excited for the actual film? Oh, I’m totally excited but this clip was kind of lame.
