‘Jungle Cruise’ Is the Ride of the Summer!

There’s something about experiencing the greatness of Disney. It’s a feeling that permeates your very soul to the core and leaves you utterly filled with joy. That is the feeling Jungle Cruise gave me yesterday.

A few weeks ago I was one of those people who told myself that I would watch Jungle Cruise when it arrived on Disney+ for free. Then we went to see Snake Eyes. Suddenly, after somewhat enjoying the film that garnered a 38% Rotten score from critics, I thought to myself, “Oh what the heck. I might as well see Jungle Cruise too.”

When the first reactions spilled online and they painted a picture of fun, summertime movie watching I began to get excited about watching the film. Especially when I began to remember that every Emily Blunt movie I’ve watched has been an enjoyable experience.

So yesterday I went to my local Regal IMAX theater with my family and for two hours I was sucked into Disney World essentially. Jungle Cruise is no masterpiece in originality but it manages to infuse the best parts of other classic summer films–Pirates of the Caribbean, The Mummy, Indiana Jones–to become something that, in its own right, is something special.

‘A Quiet Place: Part II’ Delivers The Scares and Sets Up A Thrilling Sequel

Well, I watched A Quiet Place: Part II today…fully vaccinated and maskless, which was very rewarding as a diehard movie theater fan. There’s nothing like walking into a theater to see a movie, to smell that iconic scent of popcorn in the air, and to hear the faint rumbling of the auditoriums throughout the theater as they each play a different film.

My theater, considering that it was the earliest showing, wasn’t packed but it was full of people ready to see the sequel to Krasinski’s 2018 surprise horror masterpiece. And sure enough, A Quiet Place: Part II delivers perfectly.

Like Aliens, the sequel builds upon the story with larger action pieces built around the same sort of slow-burn infuriating tenseness that the first film delivered so brilliantly. While A Quiet Place was more profoundly terrifying due to its various situations, the sequel manages to be just as nail-bitingly tense and I loved every second of anxiety.

A Quiet Place: Part II also begs for a sequel with an ending that, like the first one, leaves you wanting more. A Quiet Place: Part III has the chance of being even bigger and better than its two predecessors and if Krasinski returns to direct and write I can see it being another hit.

We have had horror movies strike luck twice but I believe A Quiet Place: Part III could be the first of a franchise to strike three times. In fact, I can see this story being split into a spinoff limited series on HBO Max, produced by Krasinski, giving us a chance to see this story from another angle with a brand new group of people because it is fascinating.

All in all, while A Quiet Place was inspiring for its originality and a true masterclass in suspense A Quiet Place: Part II is a masterclass in understanding how to keep the story going without losing the steam.

I’ll give it 93 out of 100 and 4 out of 5 stars.

I’m Seeing ‘A Quiet Place: Part II’ Today!

Three years ago, A Quiet Place hit theaters and it reinvigorated the sci-fi/horror genre in a way most movies of the same genre can’t. Boasting an impressive 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes, A Quiet Place was practically a perfect movie from start to finish, invoking real emotion, real fear, and some real jump scares. But the best thing about A Quiet Place was that it wasn’t trying to be scary. It just was.

When I watched it those years ago the ambiguous ending left me confused. But when I heard there was going to be a sequel, helmed once again by John Krasinski who would return for directing and writing, I just knew it was going to be special again. Sure enough, I saw the trailers and it looked like Krasinski was going the classic Aliens route by turning up the action notch rather than keeping the story simple and isolated.

Now, today, I’m finally getting a chance to watch A Quiet Place: Part II and I am so excited!

I’m fully vaccinated so even though I have gone to see films in a movie theater while the pandemic was still wildly active (six times, I might add) I always felt wary. Specifically eating my popcorn in the auditorium. Now, I can eat my popcorn and candy and feel totally comfortable and I. Am. Ready!

I Finally Watched ‘The Devil Wears Prada’

I watch a lot of movies but I don’t often watch girly movies like The Devil Wears Prada, so yesterday’s first-time viewing of the film was rather enjoyable.

It’s funny that I should watch this film considering that I’m really looking forward to Cruella next week, a movie that’s being hailed as The Devil Wears Prada meets Witches.

Anne Hathaway Was '9th Choice' for 'The Devil Wears Prada' Role

As I watched The Devil Wears Prada where one of my favorite actresses ever, Anne Hathaway, is dressed in so many beautiful outfits she could rival Padme for Best Movie wardrobe, I found myself pleasantly surprised by the film but a little underwhelmed.

The Devil Wears Prada has become an iconic movie and yet its story was as cliche as cliche can get. Every beat was predictable, nearly every outcome was as expected, and yet it was enjoyable in that quintessential 2000s’ movie way that had me smiling from ear to ear.

Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt also star in this wondrously girly flick and it was nice seeing them in this movie. Ultimately, while I cannot say The Devil Wears Prada is the best film I’ve ever seen, I am glad I have finally watched it.

I’m Recasting the Alfred Hitchcock Movies: Part 2

In the last part of this series I recast the main characters of classic Hitchcock movies Rope, North by Northwest, and The Birds. Today, I will recast three more films; Rear Window, The Man Who Knew Too Much, and Shadow of a Doubt. Enjoy!

Shadow of a Doubt is one of Hitchcock’s best movies. In fact, it was Hitchcock’s personal favorite and for good reason. This film builds upon its suspense and is perfectly directed, leading you through the story in a really immersive way.

In it, Joseph Cotton plays the estranged uncle, Charlie Oakley and Teresa Wright plays his niece, Charlie Newton. They are the beating heart of this thriller masterpiece and it is their performances that help make this one of my favorite Hitchcock movies.

But who could play these two? I’ve got just the two actors who would be perfect in these roles.

I’m Recasting The Alfred Hitchcock Movies: Part 1

If you’ve been reading my blog you may know that I am an Alfred Hitchcock fan. His movies are top-notch, his directorial vision is stellar, and he’s simply an inspiration. Being the Alfred Hitchcock fan that I am I decided to do something really fun; recast his most iconic films with current Hollywood stars that would be great fits for these movies. So, with no further delay, let’s begin with North by Northwest.

In this action-packed thriller filled with twists and turns you had leading man Cary Grant and his beautiful spy love-interest, Eva Marie Saint. Together, they carried this riveting story that doesn’t let up until the film’s abrupt conclusion.

So, who could play the confused-but-quick-witted businessman, Roger Thornhill and the beautiful-yet-cunning CIA agent, Eve Kendall?

Bingo, Idris Elba! I can just see him as the New York businessman-turned-hunted-CIA-decoy Roger Thornhill. He has the charm, he has that same Hollywood leading man quality as Cary Grant, and he’s someone easy to root for.

Now, there’s so many women I can imagine playing Eve Kendall but my immediate choice was…
