The Defining Moments of Leia Organa

Princess Leia was the first heroine I saw as a child that I really, really liked. She changed the perception of what I thought a princess was and she simply was very cool. Now, in my adulthood, I can look back at all of the times I watched the original trilogy and see her story with new, fresh eyes thanks to these new Star Wars films that have come out. And so today, on this segment of The Defining Moments I’m celebrating all of the incredible moments that have propelled her legend even to this day.

Be warned. Leia’s life has been very extensive and so this post is a longread. I thank you for heeding this warning. Enjoy!

1. Giving R2-D2 the Death Star Codes

Carrie Fisher and Kenny Baker in Star Wars (1977)

I still remember the feeling of mystique that surrounded Princess Leia when I saw her for the first time in A New Hope. I had to have been about eight or nine years old and it was amazing seeing her down that hallway with the white hooded dress hiding her appearance. When she removed her hood, revealing her face for the first time, it was an immensely magical moment.

Not only was this moment magical for that reason but it also immediately highlighted who she was as a character. She could’ve easily escaped with the droids but she chose to stay behind and face Vader and his minions. This instantly showcased her bravery in the face of evil and that incredible quality is what made her so special to her very last scene in The Last Jedi.

2. Mocking Governor Tarkin

Carrie Fisher, Peter Cushing, and David Prowse in Star Wars (1977)

Leia was no joke. If she didn’t like you she didn’t shrug away from letting you know that and that’s exactly what she did to Grand Moff Tarkin. She was a captive in the Death Star, she was being led around the scariest bad guy in the universe, Darth Vader, and she was being led to have a talk with Tarkin and yet she didn’t quake in the slightest. She was the smallest person in the dark, forbidding room but her brave persona shone as brightly as her white dress. I love that about Leia and it’s why she’s one of the greatest heroines of all time.

Rarely do you see a woman as strong and resolute as Leia Organa and every scene that she participated in highlighted how strong of a character she was. Unfortunately, despite her mocking of the Grand Moff’s stench, she still had to watch as her home planet, Alderaan, was blown to smithereens. That was a devastating blow for her but did she let it show? While she was clearly in anguish on the inside she rarely let her pain be seen on the outside because she’s that off the chain.

3. Rescued?

Leia was unknowingly about to be executed but luckily two men and one very large and very hairy alien had come to rescue her. This scene was one of the most important moments of her life, for it was the first time she met Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Chewbacca. To her rescuers they thought they had performed a perfect plan for her escape but to her she knew the reality. They had only prolonged her execution.

Because she is just that awesome she took charge, helping them escape the oncoming stormtroopers by taking them down the garbage chute. While it wasn’t the most flattering of escape plans it was necessary for them to survive and it’s the first time you see Leia as the natural leader that she is.

The Ten Most Awesome Women of ‘Star Wars’

I wrote a post back in July of last year celebrating the ten most incredible women of Star Wars and now that The Last Jedi has come out it’s time to update my list. Enjoy!

10. Maz Kanata

Maz is a pretty cool character but she’s not very original. If Yoda was female he would be Maz. Maz of course isn’t a Jedi which makes her slightly different but she does have the wisdom of a thousand years and the knowing of the Force. Her wisdom is what helped spur Rey onto her path. Unfortunately her role in The Last Jedi was very limited and she frankly could’ve been left out of the movie but she was so cool in The Force Awakens I had to put her on this list.

Who Has The Best Outfit in ‘Star Wars’?

There are a lot of different characters in Star Wars, I mean a whole lot of them. There are new characters, old characters, famous characters and background characters, and every single one of them has a unique style about them that makes them memorable, whether it’s good or bad. So, on that note, in this post, I’m going to see who reigns supreme in the realm of fashion in the galaxy. Enjoy.

10. Jyn Erso

I like Jyn’s outfit a lot. First of all, the outfit she wears throughout the entire film looks very logical for her field of work. I love that there aren’t any low necklines or ultra tight leggings to try to sexualize her. And I love the dark brown. And there aren’t a lot of main female characters in Star Wars, so far, who have worn dark colors. Padme was always in something vibrant or colorful except for a few times. Princess Leia (not General Leia) was always in white or if not that color at least green. Jyn was the first female protagonist to wear some dark clothing and I love it. And by the way, are her pants for sale anywhere because they look so comfortable?

The Last Jedi Has New Posters and They Are Awesome!

The D23 conference in Orlando showed out for the past couple of days with new looks at the Star Wars land in Disney World, a behind the scenes sneak peek at The Last Jedi which I will elaborate on in my next post, and a whole lot more. They also happened to reveal some brand new character posters for The Last Jedi and I want to talk a little bit about each of them because that’s how excited I am.

The Ten Most Awesome Women of Star Wars

It’s a great time to be a female fan of Star Wars. Not only has the franchise been rebooted in the best possible way but there are also so many new, strong female characters to follow and enjoy. Now that LucasFilm has released a new series called Forces of Destiny which focuses on the women of Star Wars I decided to write a post about my favorite ladies of the galaxy. Here are my top ten favorite women of Star Wars.

The Last Jedi Teaser Is Finally Here!!!

It has been almost a year and a half since The Force Awakens came out in the movies. Since its debut I have been so ready to find out what’s going on in this next installment. Last year we were introduced to the first anthology film in Star Wars which was Rogue One. Yes it was a fantastic movie and yes it is now my favorite Star Wars movie of all time but it still is nothing compared to my excitement for The Last Jedi. Well, the teaser, after this eternal wait is finally here. Enjoy!

Before This Christmas

So this trailer was full of gorgeous shots, exciting moments, and no knowledge of what the movie is exactly about which is always great. The first section of the movie before This Christmas showed up was enjoyable. It showed a lot of Rey, Luke was speaking for the first time which was incredible! All in all it was a pretty impeccable first section of the movie. It wasn’t really anything special, I will say. Yes it’s Star Wars but it was like every other Star Wars teaser I’ve seen before. Fantastically put together clips, epic music, and someone talking. Then the rest of the trailer started and I was immediately entranced. Let’s talk about the second half of this trailer.

 Kylo Ren and Captain Phasma

The Force Awakens introduced the world to their evil villain Kylo Ren. Kylo Ren at first wasn’t a true villain to me due to his immense confusion throughout the film. Then after he killed his own father, the iconic Han Solo (is it just me or does it hurt to say that Han Solo is dead?) I knew he was going to be one to worry about in the next film. Kylo Ren is scary because he will kill the characters you like the most (like Luke or Leia) without any remorse and that is frightening. Seeing him in this trailer, no matter how brief it was was amazing. First of all I’m glad that they chose a shot where he didn’t have his mask so we could see his scarred face. The shot they chose however did not allow a full view of his face so you could only see the top half of the scar which makes it exciting to see him again in other trailers. Secondly, we’re definitely going to get a better insight into Captain Phasma in this new Star Wars. She looked frighteningly beautiful in that firelight alongside her menacing stormtroopers. It definitely looks like she’ll have more to do in The Last Jedi which is appreciated. And that shot of what I’m guessing was Luke dropping to his knees as he looked upon a burning building was the same thing that was occurring in Rey’s vision in The Force Awakens where it showed Luke placing his metal hand upon R2-D2 with firelight in the left side of the screen. This was the best section of the trailer because the Dark Side is always very cool in these Star Wars films.

Everything Else in the Trailer

The rest of the trailer was just as fun to watch. The ships flying over that white flatland with red smoke streaming from the backside. Epic! And if you pause at that part you can see the silhouettes of walkers in the far distance. That’s exciting! There was Finn in some sort of tank thingy. I can’t wait to see what he’s up to. Poe’s black X-Wing got destroyed which is a shame. I loved his X-Wing. There was Rey running at night with her lightsaber. That shot of Leia was fascinating. I’m sure this movie is going to make her place in the Star Wars universe even more legendary. Wow, I can’t believe it. This was the actual teaser. The teaser has finally arrived and it was awesome!

The Conclusion of my Thoughts About This Trailer

What this teaser shows me is the fact that The Last Jedi is clearly going to be better than The Force Awakens and Rogue One which I am pleased about. I watched this trailer over a dozen times and it seems to get better!

The music for this trailer is also very telling because it’s underlying tones were sad. That isn’t good. And with Luke saying at the end of the trailer that the Jedi will have to end, what is that all about?! I have a feeling I’m going to come away from The Last Jedi crushed in some sort of way. Let’s hope Luke doesn’t die. Disney, please don’t kill Luke, or anybody else that’s cool.

If you’re just excited as me then I hope this trailer made you just as happy as it made me. Now, after this teaser December seems a long way from now which is slightly depressing. But at least we finally have seen the teaser. I hope the next trailer will have another shot of Kylo Ren without his mask, maybe a glimpse of Snoke, and a look at the new characters in this next film. Until that time I can’t wait to go see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 so I can see this teaser in all of its glory at the movies.

Thank you for reading this post and May the force be with you! December 15th you all, December 15th!
