Revisiting ‘Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time’ After Nine Years

Over the years I’ve seen many, many movies. Some have been incredible and downright unforgettable. Others come and go, scattering among your memories like sand in the wind. I completely forgot about Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, a film that my sister and I picked on for years after watching the movie back in 2011, but when it was announced that it would be coming to Disney+ I had to give it a look.

The movie was better and worse than I remembered.

First off, at the time, I had no idea who Jake Gyllenhaal was so he was a brand new face to me. Now, after seeing him in Spider-Man: Far from Home where he plays the really cool antagonist Quentin Beck/Mysterio/almost-fatherly-figure-to-Peter-Parker, I couldn’t help feeling weird seeing him as this supposedly hot, British-accented Persian prince who was not afraid to show he had been working out. A Stubborn Fan’s Analysis: Mysterio and Erik Killmonger Are Not Dead!

One of the things that had plagued the Marvel Cinematic Universe despite their entertaining films were the poorly crafted villains. Obadiah Stane, Whiplash, The Mandarin, Ronin, Yellowjacket, Malekith, these were antagonists designed to be the clear-cut bad guy for the hero to defeat. There was nothing complex about them nor were they that memorable. And then the minds behind the MCU decided to change that narrative, creating villains that not only had intriguing storylines but who actually gave the heroes a run for their money.

Two such villains that I found to be absolutely extraordinary and really likable were Erik Killmonger and Mysterio. Continue reading A Stubborn Fan’s Analysis: Mysterio and Erik Killmonger Are Not Dead!

Movie Review Flashback: My Long-Awaited Review of ‘Spider-Man: Far from Home’

This has been a fun year for Marvel, again. First, we had Captain Marvel which was a fun introduction to a powerful heroine. Then we had Avengers: Endgame which was expectedly brilliant. And last but definitely not least, we had Spider-Man: Far from Home.

I missed getting to see it in the movie theaters but as soon as it arrived on Digital I jumped at the chance to finally see this movie and it wasn’t long before I realized I was going to have a blast.

First off, if you’re wondering whether Spider-Man: Far from Home is better than Spider-Man: Homecoming, in short, it isn’t, but it isn’t worse either. I find that both films are practically the same in style, enjoyment, plot twists, and humor. But that’s actually a good thing considering that Spider-Man: Homecoming was pretty entertaining and clearly stands as one of my ten favorite Marvel movies. There Are 3 Reasons Why I’m Excited for ‘Spider-Man: Far from Home’

Spider-Man: Homecoming was a great movie but it was just the beginning of Peter Parker’s journey. Fast forward two years and here we are, just days away from getting a glimpse at the next stage of Peter, and the MCU’s, story moving forward into Phase 4. I’m ecstatic! And, with the world premiere transpiring on Wednesday night, the reviews are in and they are expectedly positive. It’s got a solid 90% on Rotten Tomatoes from 111 critics and a score of 8.5 out of 10 on IMDb. That’s even more reason to get excited!

I can’t wait to see what Marvel has up their sleeves and I can’t wait to share you with you my review. Until then, here are three reasons why I am so excited to see this movie.

1. Mysterio, duh

This is the most excited I’ve been for a new character since…hmm, to be honest, I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited to see a character in the MCU. One of my favorite things is characters derived from the Spider-Man comics. They are complex, well thought out, and always have the chance to steal the show. Jake Gyllenhaal is already stealing the show simply with that outfit, dang. And his powers. 😁

Whether he’s actually from another dimension or not we’ll have to wait and see but I CAN’T WAIT to learn more about this mysterious character. Continue reading There Are 3 Reasons Why I’m Excited for ‘Spider-Man: Far from Home’

How Will Mysterio’s Mysterious Role Play Out in ‘Spider-Man: Far from Home’?

Okay, if you’re familiar with Spider-Man’s comics then you will be very familiar with the newest character to join the MCU, Mysterio. If you don’t anything about this new character though I advise continuing reading with caution, for I may present some HUGE spoilers for Spider-Man: Far from Home in this post. You have been warned.

Okay, now that that’s out of the way, let’s get to Mysterio’s potential role in this film.

Quentin Beck/Mysterio, in the newest trailer for the film, is working with Nick Fury and is supposedly from another dimension. Together he, Spider-Man, Nick Fury, and Agent Hill are trying to stop these three elemental creatures that are apparently tearing up Europe.

He instantly sounds like a pretty cool guy and judging from what we’ve been shown it seems like he’s a bona fide hero. But that’s just the thing. In the comics, his actions are far from heroic.
