I didn’t know anything about Jurassic Park until five years ago. For years I had seen fleeting glimpses of the film and I had acquired enough knowledge about the movie to know it had something to do with dinosaurs but beyond that I knew zip about the movie. So five years ago I guess they were celebrating Jurassic Park‘s 20th year anniversary and my father took me to see it in the movie theaters in IMAX. I didn’t know what I was getting into. I didn’t know the terrifying ride I was about to take. I just figured I was going to see an 90s’ classic.
As soon as the movie came on I knew something was amiss. This wasn’t the old classic that I was expecting. I remember when I saw the dinosaurs for the first time in the film. I was utterly stunned. Here was this movie that had come out twenty years ago and it looked FANTASTIC! The dinosaurs actually looked kind of real and the music composed by the legendary, John Williams, was in every sense of the world magical. The genius about Jurassic Park is it takes its own time to get rolling but once it does it doesn’t stop.
I don’t think I’ve ever screamed or jumped as much in a movie theater as when I watched Jurassic Park. It was like the Jaws of dinosaur movies and even today, five years after seeing it for the first time, it still horrifies me in ways that most movies can’t. Even when I know what is going to happen I still watch with wide eyes full of terror when the T-Rex gets out of his pen and terrorizes all of the characters with that iconic roar that pierces the very soul.
The other day I watched Jurassic Park and once again my mind was blown. The other films in the Jurassic franchise have tried to recreate that same horrific magic as Jurassic Park managed to achieve but they haven’t been able to do it yet. I’m hoping that Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will be able to conjure at least a hint of that same terror.
It might’ve taken me a long while to finally see Jurassic Park but now that I have it’s easily one of the best movies I have ever seen.
I thank you for reading and I hope you have a great day.
