A Movie Ranking: Anne Hathaway

Anne Hathaway has become one of my favorite actresses for her work. She can be a comic book character at one moment and a smart galaxy-traveling professor the next. So, for this week’s A Movie Ranking, I wanted to highlight her. Enjoy!

4. Ocean’s Eight

I wish I could say Ocean’s Eight was a tremendous remake of the beloved Ocean’s trilogy but honestly, this was a bad movie. So bad, in fact, that I couldn’t finish it. Continue reading A Movie Ranking: Anne Hathaway

A Movie Ranking: Cate Blanchett

One of my favorite actresses, if not my favorite actresses of all time is Cate Blanchett. Every role that I’ve seen her play she manages to transform into a new character and really hones in the idea that she is the most captivating person in the scene. Whether she’s playing an elven queen or a Marvel villain Cate Blanchett manages to steal the show and I absolutely love her.

That’s why, for this week’s A Movie Ranking, I’m featuring Cate Blanchett as the star of this topic. Enjoy!

11. Ocean’s 8

Cate Blanchett in Ocean's Eight (2018)

It’s a shame because I was SO excited for the prospect of an all-female Ocean’s movie and it turned out to be crap. I honestly couldn’t even finish it, it was that bad! But Cate Blanchett was great in the film, as always. She was basically the Brad Pitt of the film as she portrayed this super cool female crook who always had the best style in the room. I liked her character but I didn’t like the movie. Continue reading A Movie Ranking: Cate Blanchett

My Partial Review of ‘Ocean’s 8’

This past summer a star-studded all-female cast tackled one of the greatest heist series in recent memory–the Ocean’s movies–with their own take on the classic heist tale. Sandra Bullock stars as Danny Ocean’s sister, Debbie Ocean, and the rest is history.

I tried to watch this movie last night but it was so boring I couldn’t even finish it. One of the reasons why I love the Ocean’s trilogy is because of the unique cinematography and the directorial view of Steven Soderbergh. Ocean’s 8 doesn’t have that in the slightest.

The music isn’t good, the plot is horrendously boring, and like I said before, I couldn’t even finish it. The screenwriters thought they were writing a smart script but it came off as stale and dry. The characters weren’t thoughtfully written or memorable.

All in all, once again a remake starring an all-female leading cast failed to deliver. It seems so strange that most popular films starring men never seem to suffer from bad writing or stale plot points. From Ghostbusters to Ocean’s 8, however, these all-female reboots are simply embarrassing to behold. Hopefully the next Terminator movie, which is boasting three female leads, will be the first female-led film with a legitimately fantastic storyline.

I’m giving this film a 71 out of a 100 and 2 out of 5 stars. This movie is the definition of boring.

I thank you for reading my review and I hope you have a fantastic day.

I’ve Seen ‘Solo’!!!

Oh my goodness y’all! I’ve seen Solo: A Star Wars Story and I can honestly say it was one of the best movie experiences of my life. Today was my magnificent 20th birthday and what’s a better way to celebrate a fantastic personal milestone like that than watching a brand new Star Wars movie! And boy was this a Star Wars movie. This film literally had its grip on me from the first second to the last second because it seriously was THAT awesome. For the next week I’m going to unload all of my feelings about this movie in a series of posts focusing specifically on different elements of the film so I won’t go into too much detail about it but I can honestly it was one of the greatest movie surprises of my entire life.

This is the look of someone who has just watched an AMAZING Star Wars movie. Solo was AWESOME!

I walked out of that movie theater practically glowing with happiness. In fact, as I write this I’m still beaming with joy because the film truly was that special.

Spoiler Alert! I’m part of the team. (Just kidding.) 🙂

And then as I was exiting the movie theater with my family I saw this amazing movie display for Ocean’s 8 that I absolutely couldn’t resist. It’s awesome being a woman because I fit right in with the rest of this awesome crew…and isn’t that an amazing crew of calculated thieves? I totally want in. 🙂

Oh my goodness! I absolutely can’t express to you in words how fantastic of a time I had but I can honestly say that I’m already counting down the days until I can own Solo on DVD. If you haven’t seen this movie because the slow box-office or the mediocre reviews have dissuaded you from wanting to see it I really hope this post changes your mind because it honestly is a film worth watching, literally from beginning to end.

I thank you for reading and I can’t wait to tell you all of my opinions of the movie in my upcoming posts. Have a great day and May the force be with you.

I Am So Excited for ‘Ocean’s 8’

I’ve seen all of the Ocean’s films and they are fantastic heist films. So when it was announced that there was going to be another Oceans film but this time with an all-female cast I was definitely a little skeptical but excited at the same time. Then the star-studded cast was announced and I got totally excited. This movie has some of my favorite actresses in Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, and Sandra Bullock and while I’m not exactly familiar with everyone else except for Mindy Kaling and Rihanna I was still just as excited to see these actors bring a new era to the Oceans series.

One of my favorite things about the Oceans films is the cinematography and the music. Director Steven Soderbergh had a unique eye that made those previous three movies so cool to watch. And then composer, David Holmes, brought a jazzy feel to the films that was utterly perfect. They, to me, were the heart and soul of the series and the reason why they were so enjoyable.

Ocean’s 8 doesn’t have this director and composer which is a slight bummer. So can this new director in Gary Ross and composer in Daniel Pemberton retain that classic Oceans style while providing something fresh and new? I honestly hope so.

All in all, I’m counting down the days until I’ll be able to see it and I hope it’s just as great as it looks. I thank you for reading and I hope you have a splendid day.

The Trailer for Ocean’s 8 Is Here

I’m not a huge fan of all-female led movies because usually they aren’t the type of movies I want to see so when I heard they were going to make an Ocean’s film with an entirely female cast I was a little skeptical but after seeing this trailer I’m definitely not anymore. Check it out.

So, judging from this trailer, this movie is literally going off of the same formula as the other Ocean films and I like that. I can honestly say I’m excited to see this film and that’s always a good thing. Besides, any movie with Cate Blanchett in it has my attention.

I hope you enjoyed this trailer and I thank you for reading. Have a wonderful day.
