Movie Review Flashback: ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl’ Is Fun, Fun, Fun!

How do you base a movie off of an amusement park ride and get away with it? I don’t know how Walt Disney did it but they did it and I thank them for it.

A few years ago I saw Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl for the first time and was utterly shocked at how great the film was. For years, I had heard about the movie and I knew about Jack Sparrow but it wasn’t until I watched the movie that I understood why these movies were so famous.

There are really good films that are full of depth and complexity like Joker or Blue Jasmine and while The Curse of the Black Pearl is nothing like that it is a pure joy to watch. It’s as if Disney bottled up the happiness a day at their parks can be and poured it all over this project, delivering an experience that is unforgettable.

The music is perfection, the action is riveting and exceptionally choreographed, the cast, namely Johnny Depp as the ever-lovable Jack Sparrow, is fantastic, and by the conclusion, I am filled with a boundless joy that not a lot of films can provide me.

If you’ve never been interested in giving the Pirates of the Caribbean films a look please do. They are F-U-N. FUN!!!!

I watched it again for only the third time last night and boy was it an enjoyable experience…as you can probably tell.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a great day.

A Movie Ranking: Orlando Bloom

Another week has passed and that means it’s time for another A Movie Ranking. Today, I’m featuring one of my favorite actors as a teenager, Orlando Bloom. Enjoy!

10. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

Johnny Depp, Javier Bardem, Geoffrey Rush, Kaya Scodelario, and Brenton Thwaites in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017)

I like the Pirates of the Caribbean films but this was one that just didn’t make me as happy as the other ones did. I wasn’t as invested in the characters and the storyline is too complex for its britches.

9. The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies

Orlando Bloom and Evangeline Lilly in The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014)

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is a pretty dismal conclusion to what could’ve been a very epic trilogy. And while Orlando Bloom’s role as Legolas in the film isn’t exactly horrible he is bombarded nonetheless by the ridiculous script, turning him into more of a superhero than simply an Elven warrior. Why ‘The Lord of the Rings’ Is Amazing: The Cast and Characters

Yesterday I wrote the first post in a five-part series featuring why The Lord of the Rings is amazing. In that post, I shared my fascination with the awe-inspiring locations Peter Jackson sought to bring this epic story to life. But it isn’t just the beautiful lands captured onscreen that have managed to make these films astronomically magnificent but also the incredible cast as well.

Think about some of the best movies ever made. Take films like Die Hard or the original Star Wars films for example. Each of these movies took relative unknowns and boosted them to icon status instantly. Bruce Willis will always be known as the tough, gun-toting, wise-cracking guy for the incredible job he did to bring that type of character to life in Die Hard. Could another actor have done the same?

Star Wars took a cast of unknowns–Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, etc–and boosted them to Hollywood royalty overnight as they starred in a film (A New Hope) that still awes children and adults to this day.

The Lord of the Rings is another one of these types of movies. On that note, let’s look at this sprawling cast who brought each and every character to life in a way rarely seen in film or television.

(This is a long read.) Continue reading Why ‘The Lord of the Rings’ Is Amazing: The Cast and Characters
