The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been around for ten years and it doesn’t look like the franchise is coming to an end anytime soon. With Avengers 4 about to bring a conclusion to a 22-movie storyline, a new journey is about to begin and that means new heroes will have to arrive to save the day. But who will those new heroes be? I’m not going to pretend that I’m an expert on Marvel characters (I am not) but I have done some research and discovered some very cool characters that could be central pieces to this evolving story. So, here are the characters I would love to see debut in the upcoming Phase 4 of the MCU.
1. Hawkeye (Kate Bishop)
The older Avengers’ reign is coming to an end (quickly) and that means we need new heroes to take their place. With Spider-Man’s debut in Captain America: Civil War the idea of the Young Avengers coming to fruition could easily become something very special and Kate Bishop/Hawkeye is a perfect candidate for that youthful organization.
It’s also perfect because her storyline is simple. She grew up idolizing Hawkeye (he was her favorite Avenger) and decided when she got old enough to follow his footsteps as a bow-wielding superhero. Sounds great if you ask me.

A couple of days ago I wrote a post stating how I believe Bucky Barnes is going to become Captain America in Phase 4 of the MCU but now I feel I have even more proof of that mantle passing eventually coming to fruition. Yesterday I watched Captain America: Civil War and during that climactic fight scene between Captain America, Bucky, and Iron Man there’s a moment when the century old superheroes start pummeling Iron Man like a tag team duo.
At this moment it’s these two super soldiers going to town on Iron Man but what makes this portion stand out is the fluidity of Steve and Bucky’s fighting. For that moment we see the current Captain America, Steve Rogers, give up his shield to the potential future Captain America, Bucky Barnes.
Of course, this may have just been some really awesome choreography between two superhero buddies but I don’t think it’s a coincidence how this thread of Bucky wielding Cap’s shield (for good) has happened more than once in these films.
This was just another observation I wanted to share with you and I thank you for reading. I hope you have a beautiful day.
After watching Captain America: The First Avenger the other day it struck me how far Bucky has come in the MCU. He’s been in this story since the beginning and he’s experienced so many twists and turns throughout his involvement in this franchise. I mean, now he’s dead! But since it’s pretty obvious that somehow he will be revived to fight Thanos one more time there is still an imminent doom awaiting a certain man and his name is Steve Rogers.
Captain America has graced six movies in the MCU, he’s played a central part in the overall story of the franchise, and he’s one of the most important characters…but his journey is swiftly coming to an end.
Chris Evans (Captain America) is ready to move on from the shield and start a new direction in his acting career and with him not signing any more contracts it’s pretty clear that Avengers 4 will be his final hurrah. Sebastian Stan (Bucky), however, has signed a nine movie contract with Marvel and get this; he’s only been in four movies so far! That means even after Avengers 4 he’ll return yet again for at least another four movies. Yeah, Bucky is going to be around for a while.
So with Steve Rogers’ Captain America coming to an end a new man behind the shield will have to be crowned and I have a legitimate feeling that it’s going to be Bucky.
