‘The Incredibles’ After ‘Incredibles II’

I went to see Incredibles II last Sunday and for the most part I enjoyed it. After not having seen The Incredibles in at least seven years it was nice reacquainting myself with the superhero family I had grown up with. But as I watched the movie I realized that while the film was well made and perfect in every sense of the word there was something about that just didn’t strike me as much as the first one did. But how could I be sure? I hadn’t seen The Incredibles in years. Was it really better than this highly-anticipated sequel that delivered a semi-scary villain and even more superheroes?! So, I watched The Incredibles last night after not having seen it in such a long time and as soon as the movie came on I was hit with an intense nostalgia punch I wasn’t expecting.

The Incredibles perfectly places us in a world where supers are still totally legal and awesome. We get to experience life as Mr. Incredible as he zips around town to stop bad guys and save lives while also trying not to miss the wedding that’ll marry him and his beloved Elastigirl. It seems like everything is great and then the lawsuits start. The supers are forced to disappear and that’s when the real story begins fifteen years later.

‘Up’ Is One of the Greatest Animated Movies Ever Made

Yesterday I was watching Freeform’s Fun Day which features a marathon of different family movies over the weekend and one of the movies that came on was Up. I remember watching the movie back in 2009 but for some reason I had forgotten nearly everything about the film. I forgot the film’s premise, the film’s beginning and end, I had forgotten it all, so it was like watching a brand new Pixar movie and oh my goodness was I taken on a ride I wasn’t expecting.

Up is about an elderly man named Carl who after the loss of his beloved wife loses his sense of adventure and becomes a classic old grump…until he meets a young boy scout named Russel who needs one last badge (the Assisting an Elder Badge) to become senior wilderness explorer. It’s a huge honor to Russel.

Long story short, Carl shoos the kid away by telling him to find a Snipe, an imaginary creature that’s been bugging his house, but when a construction company ends up having to take Carl’s house after an incident he decides to start living life again. He decides to find the Paradise Falls that he and his wife had always aspired to live by but he doesn’t realize that he has another passenger aboard his flying house; the clingy Russel. Together they go an adventure that is so wildly entertaining that I had a smile on my face the entire time I watched the movie.

My Spoiler-Free Review of ‘Incredibles II’

After fourteen years of waiting and wondering and finally accepting that there would never be a sequel to The Incredibles Disney made another dream of mine come to reality with the long awaited Incredibles II. When the Disney logo opened with the classic Incredibles music playing it was like a nostalgia bomb had been dropped on my senses and I became awash in happiness. Yeah baby!

The movie starts basically where the last film stopped which was expected and takes viewers on a fun family adventure as Elastigirl goes to bring superheroes legal again and Mr. Incredible becomes a stay-at-home dad.

Baby Jack Jack steals the show as his powers slowly evolve throughout the movie and leaves you surprised at every turn by how incredibly powerful he is. He’s also the main comic relief of the film. I mean, he’s 100% hilarious.

Elastigirl is given plenty of chances to shine as she saves the day over and over again. Her action scenes are easily the best parts of the movie.

And the villain, Screenslaver, is actually an antagonist who struck a bit of fear in me despite it being an animated film. One of the reasons why The Incredibles was such a great movie was because the villain caused quite the conundrum for the heroes and Screenslaver is easily a better villain than nearly half the Marvel villains.

The music for the movie is also well composed and retains that heroic aspect that made the first one so lovable.

The action, like I said before, is brilliant and are definitely the best parts of the movie. In fact, the action is so good that now I see why it was brought out in IMAX. It was quite loud and impressive indeed. *thumbs up*

I’m So Excited for ‘Incredibles 2’!

I still haven’t seen Incredibles 2 yet but I’m set to finally get a chance to see it tomorrow and I couldn’t be more ecstatic. I have been waiting for this moment for over a decade and to hear that it has garnered positive reviews and has made the most money in an opening-weekend than any other animated film. That’s so awesome. A lot of times people make sequels and prequels and three-quels but a lot of times those movies lose that same magic the predecessor once had. Only a few films have managed to break that curse and I’m so glad to hear that Incredibles 2 is one of those exceptions.

I can’t wait to share with you my experience and review of the movie tomorrow and like I said before, I am SO excited! 🙂

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a wonderful day.

A New Trailer for ‘Incredibles 2’ Has Arrived and It’s Actually Kind of Awesome

I’m a HUGE fan of The Incredibles. I mean, as a child I used to watch The Incredibles nearly every single day and it just brought me SO much joy that no other animated film had ever provided me. It was, and still is, one of the best superhero movies I have ever seen but its ending practically begged for a sequel that, unfortunately, never came. As the years went by and I got older the hope for an Incredibles sequel continued to dwindle and after a while I began to accept the fact that there would never be another Incredibles film.

Then Disney finally decided to revive the incredible (see what I did there? :)) franchise and bring out a sequel fourteen years since it debuted back in 2004 and even though I’ll be twenty this year I couldn’t be more excited. Just hearing the classic Incredibles music again brings back all of those memories of me sitting with my younger sister in front of my television getting chills and watching this fascinating animated superhero flick that was perfectly constructed from beginning to end. So, on that note, an official trailer for the sequel premiered this past weekend and I’m excited to share it with you. Enjoy!

I have to admit, I didn’t like the teaser that much but this trailer is actually pretty good. It’s emitting that special thing that The Incredibles had but now the story is switched around as Mr. Incredible has to become a stay-at-home dad, which is hilarious looking already by the way, and Elastigirl has to go save the world and bring superheroes back into the spotlight. I loved all of the family interaction in the trailer, I loved seeing that Frozone will probably play a bigger role in the movie this time around, I highly enjoyed the humor in the trailer, and I loved seeing that there will undoubtedly be plenty of action in the film. I have a very good feeling about this movie now. And the most exciting moment, for me, from the trailer was seeing the new villain, Screenslaver.

He actually looks kind of scary which is perfect because that’s how an Incredibles villain is supposed to be. What made The Incredibles so awesome was the fact that the antagonist was actually a worthy opponent. He wasn’t easy to defeat and he brought a lot of trouble to the Incredibles. The fact that they showed this new villain, Screenslaver, at the very end of the trailer shows that there’s a lot more to this movie than meets the eye. Yay! Wow, am I starting to legitimately get excited for this movie? I think I am.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have an incredible day.

The Incredibles Are Back!

I’m going to tell you right now, I am a HUGE Incredibles fan. I was six when The Incredibles came out and I think I watched this movie nearly every day for about a year and a half straight, that’s how much I loved The Incredibles. It was the best superhero movie I had ever seen as a child and it continuously made me happy. As I grew older and continued watching The Incredibles I began asking myself as I watched the end over and over again if there would be a sequel or not. It was so obvious that there should be one but as the years crawled by and the hope of an Incredibles sequel grew less and less likely I began to give up hope.

I think the last time I watched The Incredibles was, I’d say, in 2011 and after that final viewing of the Pixar superhero flick I thought I would never see The Incredibles again. And then…that hope for an Incredibles sequel that I had buried away because it seemed so unlikely was reawakened with a bang as Disney announced that sequel that I had been longing for for years was going to be made. I jumped up and down with joy.

The Incredibles was my favorite children’s movie just ahead of the cute children’s film, Stuart Little, and the thought of a sequel was beyond a dream come true for me. Last week during the Winter Olympics a sneak peek for Incredibles 2 was released and, after finally seeing it today, I’m here to share it with you.

After seeing the sneak peek I’m still excited about the movie but I don’t know if it has that same pizzazz, that same special sauce that made it so enjoyable fourteen years ago. I think because The Incredibles set such a high bar Disney is possibly trying too hard to top it and that could be a problem. I mean I like the plot.

Elastigirl has been hired by an agency to bring superheroes back into the limelight while Mr. Incredible has to become a stay-at-home dad and take care of the kids which shows how the creators have evolved the story since last time we saw them. And while the sneak peek was enjoyable it also felt, I hate to admit it, a little boring. Some of the jokes didn’t land properly, seeing Edna Mode in the teaser felt like a nostalgic callback to the previous Incredibles rather than a necessity, and there wasn’t exactly anything that excited me from this trailer. One thing that did interest me about this sneak peek, however, is the fact that there was no sign of the villain. That means there’s quite a bit of content in this movie that hasn’t been shared and that’s always exciting to see.

I’m hoping Incredibles 2 will be just as enjoyable as its predecessor but I’ll have to wait and see. Judging from this sneak peek though it’ll fall just short of The Incredibles’ former glory and it’ll try too hard to be like the previous film rather than embracing it and moving the story forward in an equally enjoyable manner. I hope I’m wrong about this but my gut instinct is usually never wrong.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have an incredible day.
