For the past few years, we’ve been seeing greater villains in the MCU, which has been a relief. For so many years the MCU was viewed as a great franchise but its persistent weakness was its villains. With forgettable antagonists like Malekith (Thor: The Dark World), Ronan (Guardians of the Galaxy), or Yellow Jacket (Ant-Man) it’s always a relief when a Marvel movie arrives with a legitimately fantastic villain. And Spider-Man: Far from Home was one such Marvel film.
Like Black Panther, Spider-Man: Far from Home delivers its villain on its own terms, choosing to flesh out the story a bit before leaving you riveted midway through the movie as the antagonist comes into play in a shocking way.
What I love is how the writers psychologically trick you into thinking that Quentin Beck is the good guy. And believe me. I did my homework.
I knew that Beck was a man who used special effects to make himself look larger than life while he deceived Spider-Man and became one of his greatest arch-nemesis in the comics.
