Ranking the Movies of 2022: From Worst to Best

2022 has been an exciting year if you’re a cinema lover. There have been some disappointments along the way but for the most part, moviemakers have brought their A-game, delivering flicks with a simple promise that should be the basis of all films; entertainment. Movies like Top Gun: Maverick, Avatar, and RRR reminded us of the majesty of cinema, providing experiences audiences will never forget, while other movies like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, All Quiet on the Western Front, and Everything Everywhere All at Once hit viewers in their emotional cores, reminding us of the power of a great, shockingly human story.

I Watched a Bunch of Indian Movies Recently…and Now I Have To Rank All of Them

I’ve watched a lot of movies in my time but I had never seen a single Indian film. And then there was this movie I kept hearing about called RRR. The film was being claimed as the best action movie of the year and considering the fact that we got a movie as good as Top Gun: Maverick this year I had to see what the hubbub was about.

Sure enough, I watched RRR and suddenly a whole new world of cinema had been opened to me. In the last week, I have binge-watched lots of Indian movies and each film that I’ve chosen to watch has seemed better than the last. So, I figured I might as well share a ranking of the movies I’ve seen so far. Here we go.

8. Bahubali 2: The Conclusion

This was like Endgame in India when it came out in 2017 because it ended up becoming the highest-grossing Indian film of all time. Directed by S.S Rajmouli, a man who’s known for bringing incredible epics to the big screen, this film has all of the trappings of an epic film. Unfortunately, the story seems to drag on forever and because most of it is a flashback there’s something about it that feels less impactful than it should.

Plus, the final showdown felt just a bit too ridiculous at times. Other than that, it was enjoyable.

4 out of 5 stars
