Arwen, Eowyn, Galadriel, or Tauriel: Who Was the Greatest Heroine?

Both The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies were mainly male-dominated but amidst all of the lovable heroes there were a few powerful heroines who helped not only make the movies better but also shined in their own personal spotlights. So today I’m making a post to celebrate these incredible women and debate which heroine was the greatest. Enjoy!

Arwen

Arwen never had much screen time in The Lord of the Rings trilogy and for the most part she was treated as solely Aragorn’s elven love interest, which is super boring. Especially considering how great of a warrior she really was. She not only evaded the Nazgul as she transported a grievously wounded Frodo to Rivendell but she also managed to conjure the river to her aid to sweep the Nazgul away from those lands! That’s pretty awesome! She would probably be my favorite heroine if she had more scenes displaying her as a warrior instead of a sappy, smooching elf. I still love her though. 🙂

Tauriel

Tauriel was the only major female character in the entire Hobbit trilogy and while she was the only leading lady she definitely stole the show whenever she was around with her awesome fighting skills and her elven benevolence. Even though she was clearly beautiful I loved that the writers didn’t treat her as just a love interest and provided her a story that, while it wasn’t part of the actual book, helped make the films that much more compelling to watch.

The Latest Rumors in Entertainment: Amazon’s ‘The Lord of the Rings’ Series May Focus On a Young Aragorn

If you didn’t know, Amazon is preparing to create their own version of Game of Thrones with a Lord of the Rings television series that’s set to premiere sometime next year and rumors for the show have begun to start circling. One of the rumors was that Amazon is trying to get Peter Jackson to helm the new show as either a director or an executive producer which I feel the show will definitely need to feel credible to us viewers who might want to watch it. But now the latest rumor surrounding the show is that it will focus on a young Aragorn…which could and couldn’t be a great idea.

One of the reasons why The Lord of the Rings Trilogy were so great is because the characters were so memorable and engaging and Aragorn was one of those characters. People, including me, loved Aragorn’s journey in the films and the interesting thing about him is he has had quite the adventures because of his long age. In The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies there was a reference towards a young Aragorn who was already a ranger at that time. Legolas was then told by his father, King Thranduil, to seek out the young ranger, for he was someone he wanted his son to know.

This show would be a fabulous way to explore that unknown past of Aragorn and maybe provide some cameos from Legolas, Elrond, Arwen, and Gandalf along the way. We’d get to see new lands, new villains, new obstacles for him to face, and through it all we should definitely feel the presence of Sauron lingering in the background. That could be quite awesome if written correctly.

My Ranking of ‘The Lord of the Rings’ Trilogy

The Lord of the Rings trilogy is one of the greatest cinematic feats of all time and easily one of my favorite franchises. I’ve watched The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers at the least a combined total of 200 times throughout my years growing up and even now, after nearly two decades since the first one came out in 2001, it’s still just as magical and epic as it has always been.

Peter Jackson really achieved what seemed impossible by creating these films and I can only commend him for the absolutely incredible job he did bringing this epic story once told by J.R.R Tolkien to life. The question is, in which fashion do I rank the films in this trilogy? Is the Oscar-winning The Return of the King the installment that excites me the most or is say, The Fellowship of the Ring, the movie that transports me to Middle-Earth and makes me so happy? That is what I’m excited to share with you in this post and I hope you enjoy. 🙂

‘The Return of the King’: The Extended Edition

Late last year I wrote a post about the Extended Editions for The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers and now I’ve recently come into possession of the Extended Edition for Oscar-winning The Return of the King and I’m here to talk about how incredible of an experience it was to watch. Enjoy!

I watch The Lord of the Rings all of the time but I haven’t seen The Return of the King for a couple of years or so and that helped make this such a fun experience to watch the Extended Edition. One of the reasons why The Lord of the Rings is one of the greatest trilogies of all time is because every single film is 100% superb and the third and final installment is no exception. Peter Jackson took a story and brought to an epic, climactic finale with this film that’ll make you cheer and cry, laugh and stare at the screen in slack-jawed awe, and get so many chills sometimes it’ll bring a tear to the eye.

And the Extended Edition is AMAZING! The Return of the King is already a whopping 3 hours and 21 minutes but with the extension it becomes a stunning 4 hours and 23 minutes of Lord of the Rings brilliance. That’s over an hour of extra footage! And it’s very apparent as the film is filled to the brim with new, exciting footage that actually manages to enhance the movie. In fact, I don’t think I’ll be able to watch the original version anymore because the extended version helped make the movie so much better.

My Conclusion of the Film

All in all, if you are a fan of The Lord of the Rings you should definitely check the extended edition of The Return of the King out because it is totally worth it. It’s undoubtedly 5 out of 5 stars and 100 out of a 100 (yeah, it’s that good.)

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a beautiful day.

My Opinion of ‘The Hobbit’ Trilogy

I remember when it was announced that Peter Jackson was going to make a trilogy for The Hobbit, I was ecstatic. The Lord of the Rings franchise used to be my second favorite franchise, after Star Wars of course (its now third behind Marvel and Star Wars) and the thought of another trilogy to the Middle-Earth story was a dream come true. And it was going to be about Bilbo’s story in his early days. AWESOME!

Unfortunately the trilogy ended up becoming the Star Wars prequels of The Lord of the Rings franchise as it failed to generate the same buzz and excitement its predecessors had in the early 2000’s. The story wasn’t nearly as incredible, the CGI, at times, was horrendous, and it overall simply wasn’t as enjoyable as The Lord of the Rings films.

After recently watching The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug after not having seen it for quite some time I decided I wanted to share with you my opinion on the trilogy’s shortcomings, it’s triumphs, and my overall experience with The Hobbit films. Enjoy!

‘The Lord of the Rings’: Extended Edition

Before I could even recollect watching The Lord of the Rings as a child its incredible story was being seared into my brain from the many times I watched it. When I was finally old enough to appreciate and understand the epic fantasy film I’ve absolutely loved The Lord of the Rings trilogy ever since. Peter Jackson is hands down one of the greatest directors of all time because of his stunning job with those three films. And the casting was ultimately brilliant. I could easily go on and on about how great The Lord of the Rings is on all of its different levels but this post isn’t about that. It is instead about the wondrous discovery I found out just a few days ago.

Last week I was watching the extended version of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, which I enjoyed thoroughly by the way, and I found out that there were extended versions of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Now, I enjoyed The Hobbit Trilogy, especially the second one, but I LOVE The Lord of the Rings. I mean, I know every single movie by heart, that’s how much I love these movies. So when I found out that there were extended versions of these films it was like discovering the Holy Grail.

The Fellowship of the Ring is my favorite installment in the trilogy because it’s so marvelously enjoyable. And it has the most emotional significance due to Gandalf’s “death”, Boromir’s death, and the fragmenting of the Fellowship by the end of the movie. It’s simply a great film, but it is 2 hours and 58 minutes long. It’s a very long movie. The extended version, however, is literally 3 hours and 48 minutes long. Can you believe that? It’s nearly an hour longer! That is unbelievable and so I had to watch it. I’m glad to say it was just as great as I hoped it would be.

Like I said before, I know these movies backward and forward so it was amazing seeing these unknown scenes that clarified the trilogy’s story even further.

So, since I watched the first Lord of the Rings I had to see what the second one would be like and I was even more surprised.

First of all, the extended version of The Two Towers is 3 hours and 57 minutes long and let me tell you, there is so much content in this movie, original and new, that I recommend you to watch it over two days. It was so very long but it was so interesting as well. I mean I learned, thanks to the extended version, that Aragorn is literally 87 years old! That helps a very interesting reference in The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies. Let me explain.

At the end of the third Hobbit when the battle was over King Thranduil told Legolas when he was about to head on his way to go find a man named Strider. Now I remember being super confused about this because in my mind Aragorn was between 35 and 45 years old in The Lord of the Rings. So if The Hobbit was set 60 years before The Lord of the Rings how could Aragorn even be alive? Well, now that I know that because Aragorn is actually 87 then Aragorn had been 27 at the time. That’s amazing!

I’m telling you if you are a Lord of the Rings fan and you haven’t seen the extended versions of these movies you have to check them out. They are worth every second and are absolutely wonderful. Now, I haven’t watched the extended version of Return of the King but I’m sure it’s just as marvelous.

I thank you for reading this post and I hope you enjoyed. Happy Veteran’s Day!
