The Coolest Weapons in ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’

With every new Star Wars movie comes new weapons and that’s a blast for avid Star Wars fans like me. And Solo was filled with intriguing aliens, worlds, clothing styles, and yes, weapons, that made this newest adventure in a galaxy far, far away that much more special. So, on that note, here were the five coolest weapons in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Grapple Gun

Val was only present in Solo for a short while but what I found the most impactful from her involvement in the film were her incredible smuggling skills and this gun helped achieve those skills.

Its range can go farther than 600 meters! Isn’t that amazing? That provides an entirely different look at how tough smugglers and bounty hunters truly are in the galaxy with their various gadgets and specific skills. And that’s why I loved this film. The Clone Wars showed a glimpse of the criminal underworld and this movie only took that look a bit further.

The Fierce Women of ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’

Solo might’ve been the first Star Wars movie under Disney to focus on a male lead but that didn’t mean there weren’t any fantastic women that helped elevate the movie with their special and specific roles. None of these women were treated as damsels in distress and that was a spectacular realization as I watched the film. So, in celebration of more incredible heroines joining the Star Wars universe, I’m writing this post displaying their various awesomeness.

MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD! If you haven’t seen Solo and you would like to avoid spoilers then I advise you to discontinue reading this now. Thank you for heeding this warning and enjoy. 🙂

Val

When I saw Val in the first teaser for Solo I was super excited to see her in the movie and when she showed up she was definitely rather awesome. She was a tough, no-nonsense type of gal and those are always the coolest heroines. And she was a woman of color! Um…that’s awesome. Unfortunately we met her at the end of her road as she sacrificed herself during the Conveyex heist which was kind of shocking. I thought she was going to be around for a long while but she didn’t survive through the first thirty minutes of the movie and while that is a shame her involvement in the film was 100% superb. Maybe we’ll learn a little bit more about her in future books, cartoon, or the Forces of Destiny shorts.

L3-37

L3-37

Oh man, I loved L3-37. Her mission on liberating droids from their owners was not only hilarious but heroic at the same time and it kind of made me think of droids in a different light. I also loved how expressive her personality was despite the fact that she was clearly a droid. She was yet another character in Solo that I would’ve loved to see stick around for a little longer but the fact that she became one with the Falcon‘s interface is very special indeed. I’m a total L3-37 fan now. 🙂

Val, the Level-Headed Sharpshooter

When I heard Thandie Newton was joining the cast of Solo: A Star Wars Story I was super interested in seeing who her character would end up being. Would she be an Imperial villain or an awesome smuggler? Well, she’s the latter and I couldn’t be more excited to see her character in the film.

Throughout the movie’s marketing they have been keeping her character highly under wraps and I don’t know if that means she’ll have a smaller part than expected or she is so awesome LucasFilm wants to keep her role secret so we can truly enjoy her to the fullest once we see her in theaters.

I couldn’t be more excited to see her. While there have been major black male characters throughout the various trilogies and the previous Star Wars story there haven’t been any black women to take a front row seat in the franchise, besides Lupita N’Yongo’s Maz Kanata, but she doesn’t count because she plays a CGI-created alien. Disney has really turned Star Wars around and has made it an inclusive franchise and I honestly couldn’t be happier. To see incredibly awesome characters that look like me is part of the reason why these new Star Wars movies have become so great.

I already know Val will probably, after this film, be one of my favorite new female characters in Star Wars because of her mysteriousness and she’s one of the reasons why I’m excitedly waiting for Solo next week.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a fabulous day.
