It’s been a while since I’ve felt like this about Star Wars. You know that feeling. That warm, endlessly joyful feeling in your very soul that only Star Wars can give you. Well, I got that feeling yesterday when June’s issue of Vanity Fair was released online, bringing with it a bunch of jaw-dropping Star Wars goodness.
Annie Leibovitz is at again with another epic showcasing of Star Wars at its finest. But this time, I know for a fact the long wait will live up to the hype.
The end of May was a pretty exciting time for Star Wars fans as Vanity Fair released a tantalizing issue focusing on the highly-anticipated Skywalker saga finale. We got our first look at new characters featured in this upcoming Star Wars movie, new aliens and planets, and an idea of what to expect from the film.
My sister and I were clearly ecstatic about the issue but, as always, my sister takes her excitement and converts that joy into some truly fascinating art and that’s what she did these covers. Here they are.
The Rise of Skywalker. It’s all someone like me, a Star Wars fan, can think about these days. Why? Well, one, it’s the finale to the nine-film Skywalker saga. Two, it’s a new Star Wars movie. And three, what else is there to think about when it comes to Star Wars–besides The Mandalorian, The Clone Wars, Star Wars: Resistance, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order–okay, there’s a lot to think about but The Rise of Skywalker definitely sits at #1 on the most-interested-about list as of this moment.
I’m proud to say I finally own the latest issue of Vanity Fair (through the will of the Force I got the Kylo Ren version) featuring the stirring behind-the-scenes article of The Rise of Skywalker and as I read it I couldn’t help feeling a sense of extreme joy and immense worry at the same time.
This week Star Wars fans were met with a delightful treat as Vanity Fair delivered us a tantalizing look at The Rise of Skywalker with some jaw-dropping pictures. Many of the pictures were downright fascinating but some were also interesting because they may contain clues to certain storylines in the film. So, as someone who loves to theorize about my favorite movies, here are a few theories I have concocted after seeing these pictures.
1. This Actually May Not Be Kylo Ren
In the teaser we see Rey preparing to fight someone on the sandy plains of Pasaana. It’s an epic scene as she sprints away from the attacker at full speed. We get a glimpse at a pair of gloved hands, the ones you see in the picture above, piloting the upgraded TIE silencer. At first glance, it seems pretty clear that Kylo Ren is driving the craft but now, after the Vanity Fair issue, maybe it isn’t him after all.
It’s been revealed that we will see the Knights of Ren in this film but what’s the most intriguing is the obvious fact that they will be on the same planet as Rey, Finn, and Poe. That leads me to ask the question; is Kylo Ren even in this section of the story?
In the first picture, the shot focuses on the pilot’s gloves and gives us a view of the character’s chest but no hints of the face. Is this deliberate? I think so.
Take a look at Kylo Ren on this Vanity Fair cover.
