Throwback Friday: Should There Be An All-Female Avengers Movie and Who Should Be In It?

Over the years there has been a fascinating increase of female superheroes in the MCU. There has been such a rise of awesome heroines in this franchise in fact that Tessa Thompson, who plays the role of Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok, said that there should be an all-female Avengers movie. A group of actresses even went as far as to approach the top people in Marvel about the idea. And now, after that incredible scene in Avengers: Endgame featuring every (alive) heroine the thought of an Avengers movie featuring only women doesn’t seem so far-fetched after all. So, should there be an Avengers movie that highlights our favorite heroic heroines? Um…yeah!

We’ve seen progress in how women are portrayed in superhero movies. Wonder Woman got her first solo film in 2017 which featured not only the first female superhero to get her own movie but it had a female director at the helm as well. It ended up making just a little north of $800 million, proving that women could drive people to the movie theaters. Ant-Man and the Wasp wouldn’t collect as much money as Wonder Woman but it garnered highly positive reviews, many citing Wasp as a fantastic co-lead to Paul Rudd’s humorous Ant-Man. And Captain Marvel proved that Wonder Woman‘s success wasn’t a fluke as it made over a billion dollars at the box-office this spring.

Why shouldn’t Marvel take things to the next level by introducing a movie featuring a group of heroes that consists of only women. We saw what that could look like in Avengers: Endgame and it was legitimately awesome. But who should be a part of this heroic team? Well, that’s what I’m here to share with you. Enjoy!

Who’s Your Favorite Marvel SuperHero?

It’s the second week of Avengers: Endgame and I, as well as many other people around the world, have gone to see the movie more than once. Avengers: Endgame is a thrilling conclusion to a story eleven years in the making, highlighting all of our favorite characters and giving every viewer something to cheer for. Because Endgame was such a massive success and the ultimate end of an era I wanted to make Endgame the topic for the second week in a row for Who’s Your Favorite? 

I’ve asked you all who your favorite Marvel heroine and hero are before but after Endgame I feel it’s time to hit the refresh button on this topic, this time highlighting all of the superheroes in one post, women, and men. Enjoy!

Doctor Strange

Doctor Stephen Strange wasn’t the exact superhero type. He was obnoxious, self-centered, and egotistical. Those don’t exactly seem like the traits of an Avenger. But after losing the function of his hands in a horrendous car accident he would become one of the greatest heroes in the world.

Captain Marvel

Carol Danvers, the half-Kree-half-human-noble-warrior-hero, is the most powerful Avenger in the MCU. She is the ultimate wrecking ball, as was evident in Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame but there’s more to her than simply her impressive power. She is a true hero, striving to do whatever it takes to save those across the galaxy. Among inspiring movie heroines to show young girls she’s definitely high on the list.

The Heroic Women of Marvel

The Infinity Saga has come to an end with Avengers: Endgame. Endgame truly was a culmination of the previous twenty-one movies before the Avengers finale, highlighting nearly every character that has placed a stamp on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including the powerful women.

Today I will celebrate these extraordinary heroines by looking at their thrilling involvement in Endgame and where their stories are heading for the future. Enjoy!

The Ancient One

The Ancient One’s role in Endgame was slight but impactful as we got to see her protecting the New York Sanctum during the Battle of New York and schooling Bruce Banner in the seriousness of tampering with the past. It was delighting to see her again after her being gone for so many years and even though she is a permanently dead character her wisdom will always be felt in the MCU.

A Six-Year Poster Evolution: Wasp

Hope van Dyne didn’t debut as a superhero in Ant-Man. She was basically no more than a secretary who just so happened to know martial arts…very well. It wasn’t until the end of the film that we got to see her in action but it wasn’t solidified that she would have a bigger role in the franchise as a superhero until the first post-credits scene for the film when it highlighted staring at her unfinished Wasp super suit in awe.

It made Hope more than just a pretty face. She was a hero who was just as heroic and capable of saving the world as Scott Lang. Unfortunately, she was one of the victims of Thanos’s infamous snap, meaning she can’t help try to defeat Thanos. At least, not yet.

While she hasn’t been in many films so far she has had a few posters and I’m very excited to share them with you. So, here they are. Enjoy!

Ant-Man

I love this poster because of the humor behind it. You see, at this point in her life, she pretty much despised Scott Lang. She believed she was more capable than him for the task he was given and was constantly ready to wear her father’s suit but when he wouldn’t let her she gained an annoyance to Scott who she felt didn’t deserve to wear such a powerful piece of technology. Hence, her annoyed expression on this poster. Lol.

Ant-Man and the Wasp

Hope van Dyne returns in the Ant-Man sequel not as a returning secretary but as a superhero. (I love it!) Goodbye to the makeup, fingernail polish, and fancy hair. Now she’s ready to fight with a much cleaner look and hair that clearly resembles someone who’s been sweating. Um, awesome. And she looks so perfect for that suit by the way.

The unique gold color, the perfect blue, the red, everything about her suit screams cool.

Avengers: Endgame

Wasp in this poster looks almost regretful. Like she wishes could help kick whoever’s butt placed her in this awful position. Unfortunately, she can’t, because she’s dead. But if she returns, which I’m sure she will, she is going to relish giving Thanos the beatdown he deserves.

Who’s Your Favorite Marvel Heroine?

The MCU may have an abundance of awesome male heroes but over the years there has also been a rise of incredible heroines who manage to steal the show simply by their commanding presence. But which of these fascinating, crime-stopping, alien-annihilating ladies is your favorite? Here’s the list.

Mantis

Mantis is extremely lovable because of her sweet and innocent personality. She’s played a smaller role than most of these other heroines but her presence is undeniable and she is an asset to the team.

Nebula

Nebula hasn’t had the easiest journey but she has found a way to endure. She fought by Ronan’s side in Guardians of the Galaxy and after being reunited with her beloved sister she turned down a different path; one of revenge and redemption. How her journey will end, no one knows, but she will play an integral role in the fight against Thanos.

And next year Marvel is going to feature their first film that focuses on a female hero’s origin story with Captain Marvel.

One of the greatest moments in Infinity War was the awesome female team-up between Black Widow, Okoye, and Scarlet Witch. It gave a brief hint at what a female superhero group would look like and it’s pretty awesome. But who should be a part of this heroic team?
