What’s Your Favorite ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Movie?

The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise will be getting a much-needed reboot in the coming years with Margot Robbie set to star in it but until then we can only look fondly (or poorly) on the five movies Disney has given us featuring pirates, romance, and epic sword fighting duels.

Let’s take a closer at each film.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

Pirates of the Caribbean was based on a ride at Disney World. Yes, an amusement park ride! Yet, with a great script and perfect casting, this movie excelled all expectations and is considered by many as one of the greatest Disney movies of all time.

With a very basic plot (a young man and rascally mentor of sorts must save a beautiful damsel from scary bad guys) the movie never fails to bring joy to the viewer. Its extensive runtime makes it feel like the film goes on forever and by the time it’s done you feel like you’ve enjoyed a spectacular ride. What’s Your Favorite Best Picture Nominee?

It’s been two weeks since Parasite made history as the first foreign film to win Best Picture and for this week’s Who’s Your Favorite? I thought it would be fun to ask you what Best Picture nominee would you have picked for Best Picture?

There’s Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood which, if reviews are anything to go by, was yet another Tarantino masterpiece. 1917 was receiving much praise after its Golden Globe win for both Best Picture and Best Director. Ford v. Ferrari didn’t get nominated at the Golden Globes but would snag a nomination for Best Picture, proving that the film starring Oscar-winners Matt Damon and Christian Bale was really good after all. Joker‘s ride was electric after its premiere at the Venice Film Festival that resulted in an eight-minute-long standing ovation. Critics and casual viewers alike praised the film for bringing a darker side to comic book movies. Plus, Joaquin Phoenix’s portrayal of the character was entrancing, helping the film escalate to Oscar status in style. Continue reading What’s Your Favorite Best Picture Nominee?

What’s Your Favorite ‘Harry Potter’ Movie?

It’s Sunday and you know what that means; it’s time for another Who’s Your Favorite (or What’s Your Favorite in this case.) The Harry Potter franchise is one of the most beloved franchises in the world as J.K Rowling introduced to a fictional world of wonder full of magic and magical creatures. Harry Potter was the perfect protagonist flanked by the perfect best buddies, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger. Voldemort is an impeccable antagonist, for he is truly as frightening as he is supposed to be. And these movies, based on the novels, are utterly outstanding. And that’s why I wanted them to be a part of this week’s segment of Who’s Your Favorite? I hope you enjoy!

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is a magical movie through and through because it is the film that introduces fans to the Wizarding World. This is the movie where we see Platform 9 3/4 for the first time, Diagon Alley, Hogwarts, Dumbledore, Voldemort, the Forbidden Forest, Quidditch, etc. There are many other films in the franchise but there is always the beginning of the story and this is a rather magical beginning indeed.

DC Comics or Marvel: Which Franchise Is Your Favorite?

Superhero movies. They have become an expected delight to look forward to every year. And the two arbitrators behind this movement is DC Comics and Marvel. For decades these franchises have released films that have inspired generations of fans and brought joy to millions and they are continuing to do so. In just a little over a month, Captain Marvel will be hitting theaters and there will surely be plenty of individuals, including me, rolling into theaters to see it. And that’s why I wanted to make this the topic of this week’s segment of Who’s Your Favorite? Enjoy!

DC Comics

When I think of DC Comics the first superhero that comes to mind is Batman but before Michael Keaton made Batman cool in the late 1980s’ there was Christopher Reeves’ iconic portrayal of Superman. I’ve seen Superman maybe once or twice in my younger years and while I don’t remember the film very much I still can grasp in the recesses of my brain the magic of the movie. Specifically, the scene when Superman–to bring Lois Lane back to life–uses his incredible ability to turn back time by flying around the Earth multiple times. You could say my mind was blown!

What’s Your Favorite Christopher Nolan Movie?

As you may know, Christopher Nolan is an incredible filmmaker who doesn’t just make movies that perform well at the box-office. Instead, he makes movies that intend to leave you stunned and truly appreciative of the outstanding work he has just displayed on the big screen. I didn’t know much about Christopher Nolan until I saw Interstellar. After that, I became obsessed with his work. I have watched most of his films and have loved every single one of them. Christopher Nolan still hasn’t won an Oscar but he has been nominated five times for one. And honestly, nearly all the movies he has made deserves an Oscar nod.

For this week’s Who’s Your Favorite? I thought it would be perfect to make this amazing director the topic for today. Here’s the list of his best movies. Continue reading What’s Your Favorite Christopher Nolan Movie?

Who’s Your Favorite Movie Director?

What is it that makes us love a movie? There are so many answers to that simple question. One of the staples of a film, however, is the movie’s director. There are thousands of directors around the world but there are those certain directors whose work you recognize immediately. I love movie directors. Their distinct take on filmmaking is fascinating and can help elevate a film from good to great.

And that’s why I wanted to make this the topic of this week’s Who’s Your Favorite? So, who’s your favorite movie director?

For me, my favorite director of all time is undoubtedly Christopher Nolan.

From his work on The Prestige,

to his outstanding vision for The Dark Knight, Christopher Nolan is a genius of filmmaking. His directorial prowess is rather evident with all of his movies and whenever I see his name next to a film I can’t wait to watch it.

There are, of course, other directors that I can name off of the top of my head that I think is incredible. Steven Spielberg, for one, Ridley Scott, James Cameron, the Coen Brothers; these are directors with specific points of vision that turn the films they help create into utter masterpieces.

Without directors, movies would be bland portraits of art but with them at the helm films can help transport us to a fictional world that captivates our attention for hours on end. And that’s why I love movies.

I thank you for reading and I hope you have a lovely day. May the Force be with you.
